We were lucky to catch up with Jane Bolalin & Jasmin Brunnelson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jane and Jasmin, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
In my role as Agency Co-Director and HR Manager for Let Mommy Sleep South and West Texas, I have the privilege of building and supporting the team of caregivers who serve our families.
When we started building our team, I thought carefully about the qualities I would want in my own home caring for my child and built the role and hiring standards through that lens. Families invite us into their homes during one of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives, so I take the responsibility of choosing the right caregivers very seriously.
Every caregiver we’ve hired started with an interview. Most of our early recruiting came through Indeed, and over time we have welcomed several wonderful caregivers through word-of-mouth referrals.
Our front office operates remotely and caregivers go directly into family homes, so interviews, onboarding, and orientation all take place virtually. I love leading orientation because caregivers meet both me and my business partner Jane, who manages our families. It gives us the opportunity to walk through our care model, explain how caregivers are paired with families, review documentation expectations, and establish clear communication standards from the beginning.
I believe that clear communication is loving communication. When expectations are clear, everyone can succeed. That applies to families, caregivers, and our leadership team.
Newborn experience is non-negotiable for us, as we do not provide on-the-job newborn training. Families often come to us exhausted and overwhelmed, so caregivers must already have the experience and confidence to support families during those early weeks.
Every caregiver completes the NAPS (Newborn and Postpartum Support) certification course, regardless of licensure or outside training. The NAPS curriculum is reviewed by a medical advisory board, and Let Mommy Sleep is the only agency with a government contract to teach the program. This certification ensures every caregiver guiding our families shares the same evidence-based foundation in newborn care, postpartum recovery, and infant safety.
We partner with Cribs for Kids and require every caregiver to complete their Safe Sleep course so that everyone entering a family home is trained in current safe sleep recommendations.
Many of our caregivers come from clinical backgrounds, which can be especially helpful when families need expanded education or when medical considerations are part of the postpartum period. Beyond experience, I look for caregivers who are warm, calm, flexible, and strong communicators. Overnight care also requires someone who can stay alert and maintain clear documentation throughout the night.
I love that this caregiver opportunity often creates a natural path for mothers to return to the workforce. Many of our caregivers raised their own children and bring a depth of wisdom and calm to the families we support.
If I were starting today, I would still build the team the same way: thoughtfully, with clear expectations and strong standards for experience and education. The only thing I would do earlier is invest in the systems and training that support caregivers from their very first shift. – by Jasmin

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Let Mommy Sleep of South & West Texas, we understand how amazing and exhausting the early days of parenthood can be. Our goal is to help your family rest during the postpartum period, so you can recover, bond, and feel your best.
Our compassionate caregivers provide trusted, evidence-based overnight care, allowing parents the chance of restorative sleep with peace of mind. Whether you are welcoming one baby or navigating life with twins or multiples, we have experienced caregivers to support you every step of the way. We strive to be flexible to meet each family’s care needs.
In addition to overnight newborn and infant care, we offer Baby Basics Classes: personalized, in-home sessions led by a Registered Nurse. These evidence-based classes teach you and your support system how to confidently prepare for and care for your new baby.
We also offer postpartum visits with a Registered Nurse that includes comprehensive head-to-toe assessments of both mother and baby. It provides extra security to know everyone is healthy, supported, and thriving during those important early weeks.
What makes us different in our industry? Our team consists of Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Night Doulas, and certified Newborn Care Providers (night nannies). All of our caregivers are fully vetted and committed to providing the highest quality care. They remain awake throughout the night with your baby and carefully document all nighttime care. Parents can wake up feeling refreshed and reassured, knowing their baby was well cared for during the night. We allow for flexible scheduling as we know babies can be unpredictable! We do not require contracts or steep deposits to secure care.
Our services provide peace of mind for new and seasoned parents. Let Mommy Sleep has been providing expert care since 2010. We opened our doors in the San Antonio area in November 2023 after the need for overnight support for families in the area presented itself. We expanded into the El Paso area in February 2026 to provide the community our same expert care services. Our hope to expand into additional parts of south and west Texas over the coming year.

Any advice for managing a team?
Our caregivers work overnight in family homes, which means they often work independently. Because of this structure, creating connection and support across the team is incredibly important.
One way we do this is through orientation. Because it is virtual, caregivers can see each other there. It gives them the opportunity to put faces to names and recognize that they are part of a larger team supporting families.
Another step I take intentionally is connecting caregivers who are working with the same family. Even though they work different nights, I introduce them so they can communicate if needed and share helpful notes about the household. That small connection helps caregivers feel less isolated and more supported.
Clarity plays a major role in morale. Caregivers know exactly how to document, how to communicate with families, and what our expectations are. Structure removes uncertainty and allows caregivers to focus on providing excellent care.
On the day of a caregiver’s very first shift, I do a “First Night Out” call. It gives caregivers a chance to ask last-minute questions, review details about the family they will be supporting, and most importantly feel encouraged before their first night. Many caregivers feel nervous walking into a family’s home for the first time, and that conversation helps them feel prepared and confident.
We also talk a lot about grace. Many of the families we serve are exhausted and navigating newborn care while in the early stages of postpartum recovery. I remind caregivers that meeting families with patience and flexibility helps build trust and create a strong working relationship.
Above all, I value a respectful work environment where caregivers feel heard, supported, and valued. I also believe strongly in approaching every household from a neutral and respectful standpoint so that each family we serve feels understood.
Supporting caregivers well ultimately means supporting families well, and that connection guides every decision we make as a team. – by Jasmin

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Jasmin Brunnelson and Jane Bolalin are the co-directors and owners of Let Mommy Sleep of South and West Texas. Their friendship spans more than three decades, beginning in a middle school art class on the first day of seventh grade. Jane recalls Jasmin laughing hysterically over a shared joke—a moment that sparked a lasting bond. Over the years, that connection grew into a close-knit circle of lifelong friends. Together, they have celebrated proms, graduations, marriages, the births of children, and many other meaningful milestones. Through it all, they have shared countless laughs and supported one another through life’s most important moments.
While combining friendship and business can be complex, Jasmin and Jane have made it work. When Jasmin decided to expand her entrepreneurial efforts with Let Mommy Sleep, Jane was also considering a career transition. As they discussed their next steps, it became clear that a business partnership would align their complementary strengths.
In November 2023, Let Mommy Sleep opened in the San Antonio area. The company’s success has been driven by strong organizational skills, effective communication, and a highly-qualified care team. The business quickly experienced rapid growth, with increasing demand for overnight newborn care and postpartum services throughout South and West Texas. By the end of 2025, it became clear that expanding into additional regions would improve access to much-needed postpartum support. In February 2026, the business expanded its services, including overnight newborn care, Baby Basics classes, and in-home postpartum visit, into the El Paso area. With a strong local care team in place, they are excited to serve families and meet the growing needs of the El Paso postpartum community.
