We were lucky to catch up with Jaletha Williams Porter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jaletha , appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
I’ll never forget getting my first client outside of family and friends. It actually came through word of mouth. I had been consistently showing up, serving, and putting value out there, and someone heard about me through someone else.
They reached out, trusted what I offered, and that first payment felt like so much more than money it was confirmation that what I was building had value beyond the people closest to me.
That first dollar gave me the confidence to keep going and trust the vision.

Jaletha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Jaletha Williams Porter, an entrepreneur, author, speaker, and ministry leader passionate about helping people build purpose-driven lives and businesses. My journey into entrepreneurship began through serving others and recognizing the need for practical solutions, whether in tax and bookkeeping, business development, mentorship, or faith-based coaching.
What started through word of mouth and serving those around me has grown into multiple brands that support individuals, families, and business owners in different stages of life and growth. Through Meet The Porters and our related businesses, we provide coaching, speaking engagements, business solutions, counseling support, digital resources, and transformational programs that help people move from vision to execution.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just offer services I help people gain clarity, confidence, and strategy while also addressing mindset and personal growth. I’m most proud of the impact our work has had in helping others believe in what they carry and giving them the tools to build it.
At the core of everything I do is a commitment to helping people grow in purpose, discipline, and faith while building something that lasts.

Any advice for managing a team?
My biggest advice is to lead with clarity, communication, and appreciation. Teams function best when everyone understands the vision, their role, and how their work contributes to the bigger picture.
High morale comes from people feeling seen, valued, and supported. I believe in regular communication, clear expectations, and acknowledging wins big and small.
It’s also important to create an environment where people feel safe to ask questions, grow, and be honest about challenges. When your team knows they are appreciated and connected to the vision, they are more likely to stay engaged and motivated.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, what started as a side hustle grew into multiple full-time businesses and brands. It began with serving people through word of mouth, meeting needs, and showing up consistently. What started small quickly expanded as trust grew and more people began referring others to my services.
One of the biggest milestones was realizing that what I was doing was no longer just a side income it had become a true business with impact, structure, and growth potential. From there, I began building additional brands and services that aligned with my gifts and the needs of my community.
The key to scaling was consistency, relationships, and being willing to evolve from simply doing the work to building systems, teams, and multiple streams of revenue.
