We were lucky to catch up with Jaime Engebretson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jaime, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
The journey to building my business started with my volunteering with my church to be their wedding coordinator and helping couples with their ceremony details. Couples would start asking questions about other aspects of their wedding such as rehearsal dinner recommendations or hotel block accommodations and I am not the type of person to say that’s out of scope for what I’m supposed to be helping you with. So, I asked the church pastor if I could charge a consulting fee to the couples for items they needed support with that were outside of the ceremony details. His response was if they would want to pay for that and that is how my business started. It was charging a consulting fee and then I decided to turn it into a full planning service business. The first official clients under my business name came from a referral. That is how my business continues to grow from word of mouth referrals.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for our business is referrals. Whether that is from our trusted wedding vendor partners or from previous clients. We love that our reputation is to provide excellent service and that our clients and partners share our name with their family, friends and clients.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We don’t have millions of followers, but we have found having a strategy for our social media has helped us figure out not only what to post but when to post it. We also settled on a branding strategy to have our social media consistent across all social media channels. It definitely gives us a curated look versus an organic one so it depends on what your brand/style is for what approach you should take.
