We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Haley Queen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Haley below.
Alright, Haley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
For me success is about being myself and letting that shine in my business. I’ve found the best connections and customer interactions to be the ones when I’m truly being who I’m meant to be. While owning a shop and trying to please everyone is sometimes the goal I find for me that when I’m true to myself and my values thats when my business shines the brightest. I’m not willing to change who I am or what I believe in to please people around me just to sell them something.
Not every customer will like me or my shop and I’m ok with that, because the ones who love the shop support me with such pride and love.
So sucess to me is being myself, loveing who I am, what I’ve created, what I’m offering my community and knowing that the right people will see the light that I’m shining.
Haley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I own Sustainable Rituals. We are an Eco Home & Wellness shop, we offer a bulk refill bar for all your house hold needs. Such as dish soap, body wash, shampoo and other home and body products. Customers can bring in their own container or buy one in the shop to fill up with our bulk bar. We also offer so many amazing products to help you live more plastic free. Most the products we carry are made by amazing small businesses, some local and some in other states. For us supporting other small businesses is so important. We also offer some wellness products like herbal broths and mushroom tinctures, because to me welless for the earth and ourselves go hand in hand.
I found myself wanting to create this business because I was living an eco friendly lifestyle and was having to order the products online, so silly! I saw other shops like mine popping up in Cali and the UK and thought if someone wasn’t going to do it here I would. So thats where SR was born. I knew so people in the community wanting to be more eco friendly but couldn’t find it all in one place. So I created Sustainble Rituals to fill a need in my community.
We are a small business supporting so many other small makers creating products that don’t harm the earth. It’s so important for me to help others, help my community and help mother earth. She needs us to show up, make better choices and we also need to support our small makers and stop giving these big companies our money, because they don’t care for our health or mother earths.
Supporting each other and the earth are at the core of Sustainable Rituals.
We want healing and wellness for all those around us. In our homes, our bodies and this earth we call home.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
By truly being myself, sharing whats on my heart and whats important to me. Being honest about the products I love, why I carry them, how they can help others and why I use them in my own home.
My business is a part of me, everything within it I use and love, I’ve gained trust with my customers by being honest aboout the products I carry and why I like them. I also make sure it’s the right product for each person, while sales keep my business alive I won’t push someone into buying a product if they don’t need it. Some people think this is a bad way to run a business but I’ve found the opposite. People come back and trust what I have to say, some will even come in just to ask me questions and I love having that connection with my customers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Well we opened June of 2020 when everything was opeing back up due to covid. So we had to make changes along the way. When we first opened I was filling peoples containers to cut down on customers touching all the containers. We’ve sat through slow days, closures, new mandates, but we always kept making changes to help our customers enjoy the space. I knew that if we could make it through that we could do almost anything. I stuck with my vision and what I wanted to offer customers and I’m so glad we kept shifting and stuck it out. It’s been so worth it.
