We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gigi Medina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gigi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
This business has amazingly changed my life forever in a lot of different ways, I absolutely Love my job and my passion is to make people happy by bringing confidence with my beauty services. Having a regular 9 to 5 job never goes through my mind, just in nightmares hahaha
At the beginning being a business owner was definitely scary, there were times of lots of personal insecurities making me think that I wasn’t enough to keep up a business running by own.
It has been a lot of work training on new techniques, updating every year in all new trending’s coming up, a lot of money spent on business investment required to bring it to life and keep it floating. But not only that I also had to grow as a person, to trust myself, love myself, really get to know me and work on my bad habits.
This business is all about connecting with your clients since is a very personal service, and most important to help them, so being compassionate, understanding and loving is a must!! I believe that if you follow your dreams and stay very consistent you can create anything you want.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Gigi, a very normal girl with humble beginnings, proud Latina with big dreams! The name of my Business is Mussa Beauty Studio.
It really never passed through my mind that I will work on the beauty industry, I used to work on corporate, but I was miserable, always thought that life was like that for everyone, the everyday stress and the monotony of it, until I had enough and got sick of stress losing my hair, right there I had to make a decision to take care of me and to look for something that I like to do, that it will make my life easier. I really believe I was guided to ended up doing this for living, I found it online and I knew since the moment I saw it that I will be doing this and that I will succeed at it.
What I love the most about my Business is that all my services are about to fix very common problems for everyone like losing their eyebrows, not having enough hair on their eyebrows, losing hair or going completely bald, stretch marks, scars, wrinkles, lose skin, etc etc!
And lately as Master Trainer, certifying new artist looking to create their own dream job!!
Here is a list of all my services that you can also find in detail at mussabeauty.com

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson that I had to unlearned was that because we come from a poor family, we can’t, deserve, or have the potential to succeed in life. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m alone on this when I said that your own family put those ideas in your head since you are a kid and for me was my father constantly putting us down and also the environment we grow up. It’s has been such a journey of personal growing, rewiring my brain to accept that I’m capable to create my dreams. I have to say that I’m grateful of the struggle because that keeps me humble and understand others around me, we all have our personal problems that makes act in certain ways.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Since I started social media has been extremely important for my business to show my talents and work. But social media is constantly changing and besides social media most of my clientele comes from recommendations and for all this your customer service has to be top of the line, everything starts with in you, your personality, being authentic, professional, understandable, humble and most important putting your clients as a priority to help them with their goals.
