We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gary John Miller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gary below.

Gary, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?

I have agents in different markets mainly for acting opportunities. I met my first agents at Big Fish Talent about 5 years ago after booking one of my very first commercials and a feature film. My dad had shared the commercial on his facebook page and one of his friends saw it and after chatting with me over coffee he recommended me to an agency. I decided to work with them because I wanted to book more paying gigs and elevate my knowledge of the entertainment industry. I think they decided to work with me because I was trained but I also had a natural way of being myself.

My other agent primarily works in films and is SAG franchised. I signed with Boysen Talent right before the pandemic and am just starting to see things pick up again. Work was sparse the past couple of years. I wanted to work with them because I want more opportunities and more challenges and they were sending me the kind of auditions and work I was seeking.

Gary, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I am primarily an actor and content creator. I would classify myself more as a writer-actor than the other way around as I love to create my own work and breathe ideas to life. I offer content creation for brands and other artists as well through my company Best Worst Cantina Media, our focus is primarily creating our own content such as our full length comedy album, “Good Kids Daad City”. I can create a professional youtube channel from scratch for brands as well and have extensive experience creating steady content. If someone wants more youtube videos for example, I could provide that for them along with videos for their social channels. I’ve got the numbers to prove it as well on a few of our videos. I’m proud of being able to get things done. When I say it will get done, I have to back that up or I am letting down myself and others. I have total ownership of my creativity.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Poking a Dead Frog by Mike Sacks. That book was the best thing I could’ve read as someone who wanted to be a comedian. I think learning how comedic minds worked and their insight got me to see past just stand up as well. Comedy can come in all forms and I think I’ve grown to want to tackle dramas and any genre I can think of. I don’t even try to bend it to one. I just write how I feel. I think one of the things that has always stuck out to me from that book was the idea that if you can make yourself laugh then it’s probably supposed to be there.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?

I think they’re genius but also something I don’t fully understand. I’m all for people and artists to create their own autonomy and a new way to market themselves and create a revenue stream. I’m admittedly an old school kind of person though, if I had the option of buying an NFT of Mickey Mantle’s 1952 Topps Card for example, I’d rather have the real thing.
