We were lucky to catch up with Evie Jeang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Evie, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
A defining moment in my career came from a deeply personal experience.
Early in my legal career in Downtown Los Angeles, my mentor and best friend, Elaine Chu, was going through chemotherapy for aggressive breast cancer. In the middle of everything she was facing, she encouraged me to freeze my eggs. At the time, I didn’t fully understand how important that would be, but I trusted her.
Years later, when I was ready to have a child, I found out I had health issues that made it impossible for me to carry a pregnancy. It was one of the hardest moments of my life. But because of Elaine’s advice, I still had a path forward. Through surrogacy, I was able to have my son, who is now 11 years old and the greatest gift of my life.
That experience completely changed the direction of my career. What started as legal work became something much more personal. I understood what people go through, not just professionally but emotionally.
Elaine passed away ten years ago, but her impact is still part of everything I do. Her legacy lives on in my son, in her daughter who is my goddaughter, and in the work I’ve built through Surrogacy Concierge and Hera Family Planning, where I continue to help others navigate their path to parenthood.
I don’t just work in this space. I’ve lived it. And that’s why I care so deeply about helping others navigate their own path to parenthood.

Evie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my career as an attorney, but my work today is rooted in something much more personal. My journey into surrogacy and fertility began through my own experience navigating family building, which gave me a very real understanding of how complex, emotional, and often overwhelming the process can be.
That experience led me to build Surrogacy Concierge, where we provide hands-on, personalized support to intended parents, surrogates, and donors. We guide people through every step of the journey, from matching to medical coordination, legal processes, and emotional support. I wanted to create something that felt human, transparent, and truly supportive, because I knew how isolating this process can feel without the right guidance.
From there, I founded Hera Family Planning to expand that mission even further. Hera is a platform designed to bring more transparency and accessibility into the fertility space by connecting people with trusted resources, clinics, agencies, and educational content. My goal has always been to simplify what can feel like a very fragmented and confusing industry.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t approach it only from a professional lens, I approach it from lived experience. I understand the emotional side, the uncertainty, and the importance of trust in these decisions. That perspective shapes how I build my businesses and how I support every client.
I’m most proud of the families that have been created through this work. Every successful journey represents not just a process completed, but a life-changing outcome for someone who deeply wanted to become a parent.
At the end of the day, what I want people to know is that they are not alone in this process. There are options, there is support, and there are people who genuinely care about helping them build the family they’ve been dreaming of.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back, I would still choose the same path, but I would get there faster and trust myself more along the way.
I started in law because it gave me a strong foundation. It taught me how to think critically, navigate complex systems, and advocate for people during some of the most important moments of their lives. But if I’m being honest, the work I do today is far more aligned with who I am.
My transition into surrogacy and fertility wasn’t something I planned. It came from my own personal journey, and that changed everything. It gave my work a deeper purpose. I wasn’t just helping clients anymore, I truly understood what they were going through.
So yes, I would choose this path again, but I would spend less time questioning myself and more time leaning into what I felt called to do. Sometimes the path doesn’t make sense in the beginning, but every step ended up shaping the work I do today.
Looking back, I don’t see it as starting over. I see it as everything coming together at the right time.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the biggest tests of my resilience came from my own journey to becoming a parent.
At a point in my life when I was ready to have a child, I was faced with unexpected health challenges that made it impossible for me to carry a pregnancy. It was something I never anticipated, and it forced me to confront a reality that felt both personal and overwhelming.
There were moments of doubt, frustration, and grief. It’s not just a medical process, it’s emotional, and it can feel very isolating. But I had a choice in how I responded. I chose to keep moving forward, to explore my options, and to trust the process even when it felt uncertain.
Through surrogacy, I was able to have my son. That experience required patience, trust, and resilience in ways I had never experienced before. It also gave me a completely different perspective on what it means to build a family.
That journey didn’t just shape me as a person, it shaped my entire career. It’s the reason I built Surrogacy Concierge and Hera Family Planning, so others don’t have to go through that process alone or without guidance.
Resilience, for me, wasn’t about having all the answers. It was about continuing to move forward, even when things didn’t go as planned, and finding a way to turn something difficult into something meaningful.
