We recently connected with Carrie Dawn/Author and have shared our conversation below.
Carrie Dawn/Author, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
TALES FROM WIGGLEBERRY
Your magical adventure awaits!
One day I was taking a walk in Marina del Rey and I came across this unique looking garden. They were desert like plants. They appeared to be twisting, and turning. I also noticed that they had pink and purple buds that looked like a little berries.
I felt a little tickle in my brain. I got very excited. I felt inspired and ran right home to write WIGGLEBERRY GARDEN. Then, after that, my thoughts started flowing like a waterfall and I expanded the garden to write an entire town..
That is when TALES FROM WIGGLEBERRY was born.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I have been a teacher for over 35 years. I just recently retired. I have been working with three and four-year-olds for most of that time. Creatively, I have been writing most of my life. I love writing poetry and short stories. In 2025 I finally published Tales From Wiggleberry and that was a dream come true. I also published a poetry book titled When Lily Speaks in 2017. Many people have told me that I persevere because I have never given up even when I faced many roadblocks in my life. Tales from Wiggleberry is more than a book. It’s going to be an entire enterprise, including coloring books, keychains, dolls, etc., relating to the characters in the book.
In addition to writing, I am an award-winning Fine Art Photographer. I use natural light, shadows and reflections to create my compositions. I have been showing and selling my work in galleries throughout Southern California. I am currently exhibiting in the North County San Diego area. I appreciate the fact that I have collectors that collect my work.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and author is the absolute joy that I feel when I am able to make people feel. Children feel joy as they laugh and become engaged in my stories. Children feel inspired, and that gives them the desire to want to write and read. I see it in their reactions to my stories. I hear it in their compliments . I see it on my social media pages.
I also hear how it makes them feel when they see my artwork. I have received testimony how it makes people heal. I read compliments through my social media pages and gallery owners. I feel it when I win awards and when collectors purchase my art.
The joy I feel during the creation process is indescribable. It’s a euphoric feeling as I just naturally create and come up with images that I didn’t even know I was creating. It’s just a special flow about it and a certain type of positive energy.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, there is a particular goal and mission driving my creative journey. I have a goal of creating an entire enterprise centered around my book called Tales from Wiggleberry. I would like to be known as a popular writer/author of children’s books. I would like to have lines of people waiting to buy my book and have it signed.
And most of all—I would like to spread literacy and continue to inspire children to experience the joy of reading.
