We recently connected with Drew Williams Orozco and have shared our conversation below.
Drew, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
So when I was a kid, maybe like 4 or 5 my dad realized that I could carry a tune so he started telling me about how he used to do stuff in a band. I was like that’s super cool dad! I wanna sing! So he would show me the guitar we had and I would sing along and that continued until I was about in second grade. I would take part in my first talent show and between the lights the applause and the thrill, I was hooked. I’d continue my vocal journey into 7th grade where I learned of this wonderful art called musical theatre and because I was a boy who could sing (very different times…I was a unicorn,) I was asked to audition for a local community theatre! For the next 5 years or so that became my life. I would tour with this little theatre troupe which spawned side projects and extra performances and because I was put front and center I began drawing a following and creating an audience and boosting ticket sales for this org. After that the rest is history. I’ve performed in a multitude of different venues and created things from songs to kid musicals and now I’m chillin on twitch and currently working on a kids show that I’d like to make available to schools and theatres around the world to rent and use!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So my name is Drew aka Drewbearded and I’m currently broadcasting various games on Twitch, creating fun videos on Video Games on YouTube & writing children’s musicals. I got into the entertainment industry mainly because I love performing and honestly it’s always been a goal of mine to make people smile. I go into each day, wanting to bring joy into others lives because life is not always easy or that great for folks. If I can be a beacon of light for anyone even if for a moment, I feel that’s why I was put here in the first place. I’m very proud of the storied career I’ve had so far. I’ve gotten to perform on stages on land and on sea. I’ve performed off broadway and lived in NYC. I’ve even got to take a crack at some voice acting which is HELLA fun. I’m proud of everything that I’ve learned and that even when I am too tired to do something, my passion always provides me the energy I need to get things done.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
So currently, I broadcast games on Twitch. This gig is NOT for the faint of heart. I’ve learned to be my own marketer, my own graphic designer, editor, creative team, producer, script writer & improvisational artist. It’s not easy and doing all of these things while maintaining a 9-5 & a family is challenging. It would be SO easy to just drop everything I love and have the 9-5 and family but I tried a life without performing in it. It’s not really my cup of tea.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing the positive effect I have on peoples lives. Being told that I’ve made someone’s day and getting a chance to interact with the folks that enjoy what I do. Feeling someone’s energy being lifted by a song I wrote or a joke I cracked during a show.
