Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Slagle Jr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, David thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

I am happy as a business owner . Even on the down days I cherish being able to work for myself . I do sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a normal job again . I’ve become so accustomed to the entrepreneurial lifestyle I’m not sure if I could go back . I’ve proved to myself I don’t have to sell 40 hrs or more a week of my time to a company to make a living . I can invest that time into my own business and be able to make a living. If I was super down on funds and wasn’t making enough to cover my bills I would debate going back to a job , I’ve learned how to build resources so when things do get down I’m covered but at times where I didn’t have resources I’d start putting in applications while still selling my business services / products . From interview to start time , it may be 3 weeks to a month to start a job . In that time I may sell enough of my products / services to no longer need the job .

David, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My names David Slagle Jr . I was born with a cleft lip and pallet . I’m from Elyria, Ohio . I’m a recording artist / creative entrepreneur. I started creating music in my teens . When Covid happened I just happened to have an album releasing . Unknowingly, Covid happened and when the album released it did what is considered decent . It helped me get attention from Iheart Radio in Cleveland. One of my best friends / business partner Don Kooch linked me with the Iheart DJ / host . From there we did multiple interviews over a few year span , received tons of radio play . During that time I was co owner of a local smoke shop . I ended exiting the business and I created the marketing company. It’s been rewarding and I enjoy getting to be me fully and create a career out of it , the marketing business is called Over Here It’s Original aka OHIO Marketing LLC . It’s an acronym and the meaning is authenticity and originality. We specialize in digital marketing and building brands social media presence. I’m still an active recording artist , I run and operate the Marketing company, I’m also on YouTube , I do firearms content , music , marketing , day in the life and more !

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Due to unforeseen events I lost my role in operating a smoke shop and I had just bought a house two weeks before it happened . I was unpacking boxes in my house when I got the news . I put everything I had into new furniture , uhaul , down payment , etc . I was negative $200 in my account thinking I’d get paid and be ok , it was so unexpected I was almost in shock for a few days . I started thinking .. now what ? I had the idea of opening a marketing business! I had built a following for my personal brand online already at this point . I built up a smoke shop (one of the hardest things to market online due to nature of products / market ) . I knew the blue print of marketing and realized no matter the niche my blue print would work to help brands grow organically online !

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I think what helped build my reputation is my transparency & passion. I’m very open and honest . I put my heart in anything I do .
