We recently connected with Daniel Lee and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is a voice role for a short animated film titled “Skin Flick,” I was asked to audition by the creative team behind the film who were working from an animation school in Paris, but had seen several of my voice impressions through viral online videos. From the second I saw their vision board, I knew I had to be a part of it. I won’t spoil anything, but it has incredible and timely themes set to gorgeous animation and a fantastic score. I was honored to be a part of something so special to the team, as well as its fans. Review after review talked emotionally about how much the film spoke to their experience and identity, and it became the highest rated animated short film of 2025 on Letterboxd. I hope this is the beginning of my professional voice acting career, but no matter what happens next I will always treasure my inclusion in this project more than any other.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into voice acting and stand up comedy through social media. I was randomly selected to be in a 100 person beta testing app for Vine 2 from one of the original creators, so of course I accepted and started making videos for the first time. They were pretty terrible and amateurish, but it became the stepping stones for what is now 6 years of social media content, stand up comedy, voice acting, movie reviews, and so much more. While several of my comedy and voice impression videos are what gained my profile initial popularity, I have been thankful to be in a position where I can use my platform to speak up daily about the atrocities the Trump administration has been committing all over the world since their first term. Social media and AI have created a dangerous reinforcement chamber for violence, but I hope I can pull my followers together to be a drop in the bucket that tips the scales back at some point. I am privileged to be in a position where my paycheck does not rely on social media, and so I think I have a higher responsibility to call out everything evil going on right now with the anger and explicitness that many would like to use but cannot for fear of losing their only source of income.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Facebook/Meta are now increasingly deleting random accounts due to their terrible AI tool flagging false CSAM violations all over the internet; whether it be a grandmother and her kids, a store owner and their workers, this is happening all over and at an exponentially increasing rate. Recently, my personal and public accounts were their most recent victims in this path, and I was suddenly informed one day that my accounts were deleted with no recourse or human review possible. Knowing this was a mistake, I contacted other large content creators for advise with whom I was friends with. Along with their extremely helpful advise, I also ended up reaching out to several local news stations, sending in dozens of emails to Meta services, making numerous calls to Meta customer service on another verified profile, taking to lawyers, and getting a demand letter drafted/sent to Meta in California. I was prepared to go to small claims court in order to reclaim my profiles as I had spent years building them to hundreds of thousands of followers (and a small paycheck). Thankfully, they reinstated my profiles before it got to that point, but it was still a lot of work and stress to get there. I doubt I would have seen them come back without that level of resilience and push.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
