We recently connected with Cindy Rodella-Purdy and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Yes, I’ve been lucky to have made a living as a creative my entire life. I feel blessed that I have been able to do this. Since I was a child, I knew I wanted art and design to be my life. My parents were very supportive, sending me to classes and lessons. Then I went to college for a BFA in fine art focused on commercial design. After college, I worked at a couple of agencies until I started my own company with a design partner in Pittsburgh called Ovation Media, Inc. We grew the company with some great people by our side for nine years. We eventually sold the company, and I moved on to the next phase of my life in Dallas. I met and worked with my husband John in various companies for 22 years. The last 12 as Creative Cat Media, Inc., I’ve had an incredible journey to have traveled the world and am grateful for the clients I work with still today.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I work on everything from website design and development, brochures and print ads, and traditional illustrations for books and media. I love visual problem solving; coming up with a plan for laying out a book, ad, or website design is exciting. I’m a very visual thinker, always thinking in pictures. The greatest thing about a creative life is that it never has to end. When one form of creativity stops, another one surfaces. Outside of work, I paint and do illustrations to share joy. So creativity is part of my whole life.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
The world is constantly changing. We are just now looking into NFT’s as another outlet for creativity. Since I work with technology daily, I’m always interested in what is coming out next. It’s good to go with the flow and explore what is new.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Honestly, life never gets boring. I never lack ideas or things I want to try or create. Most of all, I want to share joy and happiness with my art.
