We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittney “BOBBIE” DeMars. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittney “BOBBIE” below.
Brittney “BOBBIE”, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful projects I’ve worked on have been dance recital showcases, as they were spaces I was able not only to share my art and creativity, but also build up and encourage clients to step outside of their comfort zones!
Several of the organizations I work for as an instructor put on dance showcases and recitals where clients have the opportunity to learn choreography and perform for the community, family, and friends. It’s an amazing opportunity for choreographers, instructors, and performers alike, so when I was asked to be a part of my first showcase as a choreographer I was ecstatic! I’d only ever performed either solo, with teams, or under other choreographers at that point, so this would be an opportunity for me to create the concept from top to bottom! This for me meant an opportunity for others to see me more profoundly as a creator, director, and choreographer and I, likewise, would get to be a part of the audience and witness my art, my brain, my creation come to life on a stage in front of so many people!
This also meant an opportunity to train others, some new to dancing, some even first-time performers, for a big stage! I did not take this lightly. I wanted them to have the same feeling of support, safety, encouragement, and confidence that I lead with in my regular classes, while also getting the opportunity to be challenged by doing something new and exciting! I made sure to pour into them in each rehearsal and even made adjustments if we needed to ensure they would feel confident in the moves and their overall performance! While they, and I, put in a lot of work, those rehearsals would seem to fly by, and by the end I had a group of women ready to take on the stage!
Seeing them on that stage fully present, confident, energetic, and performing MY choreography made my heart full in a way I can’t compare to anything else. They were so proud, so confident, so courageous, and so beautiful. Not only that, but the choreography was amazing and the audience was just as excited as I and the performers were! They took something I created, the direction I gave, and embodied it with their personalities and individual styles, and gave it LIFE! And to this day people still compliment me for that first showcase choreography, which would be the one that made me understand exactly what I am capable of as a creator.
That first showcase taught me so much, but overall it ignited something in me that affirmed that I am where I should be and I am indeed a powerhouse of light and creativity. That spark continues to fuel not only the showcases and recitals I’ve done since, but even the way I teach my classes and pour into my clients to this day. That is why it is the most meaningful.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Brittney, though many people know me as “Bobbie”, and I am an educator, a performer, and a creative! My day job consists of working with First-Gen middle school students who will be the first in their families to graduate from college as the Associate Director of my Middle School Cohort. I have a deep passion for what I do and the students and families that I have the opportunity to serve.
Outside of that I am a creative – a dance instructor and performer based in Texas who lives to help others step outside of their comfort zones and tap into their confidence! While I greatly enjoy performing, an even greater passion of mine is teaching and helping clients realize their confidence and self love through how their bodies move. I teach dance classes regularly at a few studios around the Austin area, I also teach privates, small classes, create choreography for events (quinceneras, weddings, birthdays, etc) and can be booked for event or showcase performances!
I am also a small content creator who greatly enjoys creating YouTube videos, TikTok videos, and Instagram Reels where I mostly “run my mouth” and connect with others! My friends and colleagues say I’m “low-key a life coach”, as I genuinely enjoy conversations and creating content all around confidence, self value, and all things about changing and strengthening the mindset for a better life!
Each of these tie into my passion, in different, yet similar ways, of helping and encouraging others to grow, change, and evolve for the better – be it in the classroom, on the dance floor, or simply within their mindsets.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the greatest things I’ve had to unlearn is what success is “supposed” to look like and that it can look like whatever I want to define it as. Since a child success in life was defined by a very narrow-minded way of thinking. “Become rich, with a nice car, and a lot of money and that’s how you will know you are successful. That’s also how other people will know you are successful.” And while that can hold some truth, as it can be seen as a form of success, it is not the only way to be able to identify as successful.
I had to learn that small wins were also successes, and that I didn’t have to wait until I had a lot of money or a nice car to say “I am successful”. I could be successful with my goals and achievements along the way, and those successes could also be stepping stones to an even greater goal. I had to unlearn the idea of having to wait to reach the finish line in order to celebrate success, because the fact that I even trained for the race was a success within itself! And that is the same with life.
Once I unlearned that I have to get “there” before I could celebrate, before I could be happy, before I could say “I am successful”, I learned to find joy in the journey to the destination. I learned to be present in the meantime, to motivate myself by affirming my wins in the meantime, and that it only makes getting “there”, whatever “there” means to me, even more worth celebrating.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to share pieces of myself. Be it my art through my choreography or my mind and personality through my commentary and videos, both are spaces I can bring my full self and be open, while also choosing just how much I desire to show. It is rewarding for me because I didn’t always feel I had a space to be me and to be seen.
When dancing, especially performing, I am able to tap into several parts of myself at once. I can entertain, while at the same time tell a story or explain a concept through my movements and my facial expressions. I get to just dance, to just be, without shame, without fear of judgement, in all of my confidence, and in all of my creativeness.
When creating video content I get to open up and express how I think or how certain things make me feel. I get to be a mouthpiece or a mirror for some, and a difference of perspective or a challenging point of view for others. I get to create spaces for open dialogue and I personally enjoy hearing other people’s perspectives and views.
Being a creative is so rewarding because I get to have fun, explore, test, and question ideas that also further push me to grow and evolve. I also get to create connections with others through our shared interests and individual experiences, which in my opinion makes creative spaces what they are – spaces for creativity and exploration!
