Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Hancock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My mom gave me one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child: confidence in who they can become. She always treated my interests like they mattered, and when I fell in love with baking, she supported it completely. She gave me the freedom to experiment, fail, learn, and improve on my own while always being there encouraging me.
Some of my favorite memories are tied to her baking. Her peanut butter cookies and banana bread were staples in our home, and looking back, I realize it was never just about the food. It was about care, comfort, and making people feel loved.
That shaped me profoundly. Baking eventually became my own way of expressing care for people, and it grew into my home bakery. Even now, I think a big part of why I love baking is because of what it represents to me. It’s connection. It’s generosity. It’s making someone’s day a little better. And there’s a bit of science in it too—tweaking, testing, and experimenting until I find the version that works best.
She also modeled an incredible work ethic. She taught me to take pride in what I do, to work hard without complaining, and to believe I’m capable of more than I think. Those lessons influence how I approach both life and my career every day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my home bakery as a way to bring my values into something tangible to share. It began with me experimenting in the kitchen at 12 years old and has since grown into a small business focused on creating baked goods that feel intentional and personal.
The name Willow & Whisk was inspired by a willow tree we had in our backyard growing up. I wanted the brand to carry that same feeling—something rustic, whimsical and a little bit magical, while still being rooted in care and simplicity.
In many ways, baking has also come to represent healing, resilience, and adaptability for me. Losing my mom was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through, and continuing to bake became a way for me to stay connected to what she taught me while also learning how to move forward and grow through it.
I offer a range of homemade, from-scratch baked goods like brownies, cookies, sweet breads, and other treats designed to feel comforting, thoughtful, and made with care. A big part of my process is that I genuinely love trying new recipes and evolving my menu over time. I’m constantly experimenting, especially with seasonal flavors and fresh fruits, because I enjoy working with what’s naturally available throughout the year. It keeps the work both creative and grounded, and allows each product to feel connected to a specific moment in time.
At the core of it, I want people to feel cared for when they receive something I’ve made. That’s really what drives everything I create
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the biggest examples of resilience in my life has been to build and grow my home bakery after losing my mom. She was one of the people who encouraged my creativity from the very beginning. She always believed I was capable of anything I set my mind to, and that confidence shaped a huge part of who I am.
After losing her, there was a period where baking became more than just a hobby or business for me. It became a way to stay connected to her while also giving myself something constructive and meaningful to pour my energy into.
To me, resilience has meant learning how to carry grief and growth at the same time. Through baking, I found a way to channel that into something positive and creative. I started experimenting more, refining my recipes, building my brand, and creating products that reflected both comfort and love.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being creative for me is being able to create something that makes people feel something. Through baking, I’m able to combine creativity, experimentation, and care into something that people can share and enjoy. I love the process of trying new ideas and evolving recipes. There’s something really meaningful to me about being able to create moments of joy, comfort, or nostalgia through something as simple as a baked good.
