Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brionnie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brionnie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
There were many times in my career where I would find myself in most stressful situations having to choose between one thing or an opportunity that could further my career. In most cases I always chose to risk it all and just go with the flow.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Brionnie. iI was born and raised in Houston Tx. My parents were on the southwest side of houston at the time that I was born and we were in a 2 bedroom apartment in forum park of Alief.
Later around the age of 5 or 6, my parents divorced and my mom, older brother, younger sister and I moved to the north side of houston. After their divorce, I guess I was a bit sad and had a lot different things that I was feeling . That’s also when I began to write little poems about how i’d feel. I remember my mom reading one of them and asking if i’d wrote it and where it all came from. I had no clue but i made it a thing of mine and now i’m able to call myself a songwriter.
The singing most definitely came from my mom. She’s was a singer when i was younger and made her wave around houston. From as young as I can remember, she was always coaching me and teaching me different techniques with my voice.
I took my own liking to singers like, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson and J Moss. I kind of taught myself to mimic what I heard and I feel like everything i’ve learned up to this moment is present in the songs that I write, flows that I use and techniques I do with my vocals.
I think the thing that i’m most proud of is actually making a career out of something I love. To be able to meet people in the industry who love the art of creating music just as much as i do.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That you can never know too much. There’s been a few times where someone would offer advice on a situation and i would have to endure the consequences of not taking it. It wasn’t the smartest lol
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a time where I was just really down in the dumps and couldn’t think straight. Life was life’’n! I had a hard time writing and finding flows to songs. It was the worst. I just decided to just take a break from it and enjoy life a bit. It all worked out in the end.
