We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Galvan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
This year I turned thirty, flirty and thriving! Before my 30th birthday, I felt like I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone and quit my dream job. Why would I quit my dream job? One might ask. Because if I didn’t leave now… I never would. Comfort is a place we all love and treasure until it suffocates you and I felt suffocated. It was time to quit and live my life’s purpose. I quit and didn’t know what I was going to do. I was scared. Felt so much doubt. Despite it all, I pushed myself to do ME. 1000% me every single day. With that, I was on social media creating silly lil reels and content I enjoyed, for me. With my authentic light shining without any sort of dark cloud from feeling suffocated at my job, opportunities came and my door was wide open! I’ve been blessed with opportunities to work with my favorite brands and companies in my local community and worldwide. Sometimes it’s hard to take a chance on yourself, but when you do… it always pays off. DO YOU. BE YOU. FEEL YOU. That’s my motto!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 30-year-old woman who doesn’t give a f*ck what the norms of society once were for us. I just want to do me. I am not one to climb a corporate ladder. I just want to be happy and see the world! I am a creative who love to live life to the fullest. I don’t care how, when or where… I just want to experience all the beautiful things in life whole-heartedly. Someone might be like, “how do you pay your bills? you can’t just live life without working?” Well, I pay my bills and create content for brands I love and that’s enough for me. It brings me joy. That’s all I want in life, pure joy doing what I want. I worked in the live music industry for a decade and I got burnt out. I don’t want to sell tickets to shows every single day, I want to go to shows when I want. I enjoy doing things without being forced or pressured and now that it’s not weighing on me, I can enjoy live music like I used to. Now I work with my local music community on a freelancing level so I’m not tied to one place. It’s the BEST.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Enjoy what you do for YOU. Not for anyone else, just for YOU. Life is easier when you don’t put pressure of external views or expectations.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I believe it’s important as a creative to learn about yourself. What comes easy to you? What gifts would you like to showcase, highlight or expand on? That is where your sense of confidence, creativity, and light will come from! You are your own source of creativity and you can unlock so much magic when you give yourself grace & love to do so.
