We were lucky to catch up with Antonisha Baker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Antonisha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I’ve been blessed with amazing career opportunities over the last eight years. I’ve worked as in-house counsel for ground-breaking and industry leading companies, explored my passion for education in multiple roles in academia including being a law professor and assistant director before the age of 30. Even with these amazing roles I was led to entrepreneurship.
My journey into entrepreneurship came as a matter of necessity. When I decided to work in my law firm full time, I was pregnant with my son and my body and our health could not sustain the 20-hour work days and demands to keep putting myself last. My doctor advised me to leave my corporate in-house position and put my efforts into my firm so that my child and I would have a fighting chance to be healthy and most of all survive. My son is four years old now. Our journey has not been easy and I accepted other positions outside of my law firm during his infancy to secure what I thought was more stability for our family.
Everywhere I turn, entrepreneurship finds its way back to me. The stability that I thought I would have working for other businesses, law firms, or institutions has only come to me through my own efforts within my law firm. My firm provides me the opportunity to transport my son to school everyday during what would be normal business hours for others. I am at weekly doctors appointments, parent-teacher conferences, and family school activities because my child needs me right now to be able to show up to support him so that he can thrive. I am able to support my son and still service hundreds of clients in a schedule that best suits my family’s needs. This flexibility was not available to me in any role I had or position I have applied for. The job or career that I desired by working for someone else was not what God had in mind for my family. Entrepreneurship within The Law Office of Antonisha Lyniece Baker, PLLC is what we needed!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Antonisha L. Baker, Esq. I am an intellectual property and certified business transactional attorney. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL in 2014, my Juris Doctorate and Certification in Transactional Law from Emory University School of Law in 20217 in Atlanta, Georgia, and a General Counsel Certification from the University of California, Berkeley in 2025. I am licensed in the State of Florida but my intellectual property practice in trademark and copyright law allows me the privilege of serving businesses, entertainers, and creatives all over the United States and internationally. I launched The Law Office of Antonisha Lyniece Baker, PLLC in 2020. At ALB LAW, I specialize in business entity formations, business and corporate transactions and contractual matters, entertainment business transactions in film, television, fashion, and music, federal trademark and copyright registrations, and intellectual property licensing.
I have been blessed to have thousands of clients in my career and hundreds within my law firm. I am the first-point of contact for my clients when they want to strategize within their business. Business and the law need one another, which is why I am educated and an expert in both areas. I always knew I wanted to be a business attorney so my education reflects that aspiration. I can relate to my clients on more than just providing sound legal advice. We discuss and strategize on their business plan, product and service launches, hiring plans, and even retirement.
What sets my firm apart is that my clients are my family, some literally and others figuratively, that’s just how close we became. We’re comfortable enough to share our dreams, aspirations, and fears without judgment. I sincerely want to see all of my clients thrive even when I am not involved on the day to day. What warms my heart is when a potential client, colleague, or a past client that I have not heard from in a long time, sometimes years, thinks enough of me to contact me and reengage, sometimes for business and other times just to check-in and say “hey Attorney Baker I was thinking of you” or “thank you for helping me before, I hope all is well”. Its so nice to be appreciated and remembered and I do not take it lightly so I reciprocate that same effort. Although this is a “transactional” based law firm from the substantive practice areas, my relationships are certainly not transactional which is why ALB LAW has such an outstanding client retention and success rate.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My audience knows me as the Trademark Attorney especially amongst businesses within South Florida. My social media presence often highlights successful trademark registrations, client testimonials, and speaking engagements in trademark law. I have been asked to present continuing education lectures individually and as a panelist for local bar associations within the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas. My peers consider me an expert in this area so much that they trust me to teach them about this area of law. My peers are brilliant individuals and their referrals are the highest honor I can receive. Some of my peers have even come to me as clients because I present myself to be knowledgeable in my subject area and also personable enough to represent every client in a manner that increases their knowledge in this area of law as well.
The biggest reputation builder is a testimonial and word of mouth from my clients to their peers. I zealously represent every one of my clients, not just because I want to retain them but because they deserve it and I believe in their vision. When I am on a consultation call with a potential client and they tell me that a client or colleague referred them to me with the reasons why that is a testament to my reputation. My clients know I work hard for them, I support them, and I am always honest with them in every matter that we face together.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
ALB LAW was initially funded through my savings that I had earned from salary and contractor roles. I secured a business credit card early within my firm to help me fund larger expenses like hiring a marketing firm and web developer to assist with creating my online presence. I have to be honest entrepreneurship is one of the largest risks I have ever taken and is a true testament to my trust and faith in God. In this journey I have invested my time, my energy, and my personal finances to keep my vision alive. I am betting on myself and trusting God to guide me on my entrepreneurship journey. My firm has been operating for six years as of April 2026 and I have not had to secure an outside investor or business loan to date. The profits that my business earns are invested back into the business each year. Before I can ask a partner, investor, or financial institution to believe in my vision I have to show how much I believe in it as well. I am all in on ALB LAW!
What I would advise aspiring law firm owners or entrepreneurs that may not have the capital to fund their businesses themselves is to thoroughly research your industry and be very strategic in determining what your business actually needs in order to get started. There will be opportunities for all of the lavish things that you want for your business in time, but you don’t have to start out that way. What you need are the essentials which are a CPA or financial advisor, a business attorney to ensure your foundation is legally sound so you can focus on the actual services and products, and clear goals and objectives for how you are going to provide the services and products through your business, a strong work ethic, and a willingness invest in learning a skillset outside of just your service or product area so that you can fulfill some of the tasks internally rather than outsourcing them if possible.
