We recently connected with Anthony Sasser and have shared our conversation below.
Anthony, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on thus far is working on an AMEX Platinum commercial (my first major commercial that I’ve ever booked). There wasn’t a guarantee that I would book the job because it was a SAG job and I wasn’t apart of SAG. I still put my all in the audition and even staged a small background so the casting directors could see me in the role. After I submitted my audition a few days later my agent came back and told me that they wanted me for the booking and that I was going to be Taft Hartlied in to be able to work on the project. If you are unfamiliar with what that is, it is a way for talent to work on SAG jobs who are not apart of SAG. I felt so grateful that I took a chance on myself and they took a chance on me. It taught me that having faith is so important because if you don’t have faith in yourself others won’t either.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up I didn’t know what I wanted to do career wise. The only thing I could semi-agree with myself on is that I wanted to have my own business. The day I realized I wanted to be apart of the industry is a very simple underwhelming story but there was a catalyst to the beginning of what would be a journey of self discovery and cultivation. I’ve always been tall and lanky so I decided to put it to use and become a model. I even started telling people what I wanted to do and when I told my sister she messed up and told me that I couldn’t do it because “I was too timid”. Albeit that it was true, it lit a fire under me to shake that off and mold myself and my talent. I started telling everyone that “I was pretty and handesome” to boost my confidence and to scrub the image people had of me. It was taken as a joke at first but after a while my friends would say it for me. I began working out, investing in my appearance and social skills and now those are the things that set me apart from others. My look and my personality, I love making people laugh, bringing my own brand of energy into a room and showing up dressed to the nines.
I started trying out for fashion shows and surrounding myself with like minded people in the industry and learning from them. Before long the shows were where I was fully in my element and wearing the designers clothes was like second nature. I developed a deep appreciation for the craft and kept working on perfecting it everyday.
One thing to know about me is I can’t do anything without God and I put him first in all things. When you see my work know that I went to God first to put it together and that I know he’s the only thing that will keep me in the place that I’m in. I’m so proud of where I am today and I know it was all God.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Two speakers that have greaty impacted me are Les Brown & Myron Golden. They are motivational speakers who have been essential to my story. I listen to Les Brown for his ability to motivate through storytelling and the way he can just make you believe in yourself and that you can overcome any odds. Myron Golden is a man who teaches wealth building and financial literacy and often aligns those teachings with biblical teachings.
One of the most important things to me is legacy and working in the industry will allow me to build that. In order to build a legacy you have to plan and a few of my pillars are financial literacy and to operate as an overcomer.
These two teachers have been essential in helping me create that space in my life.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
2018 was an incredible year for me! I accomplished a lot of first and I was moving in the right direction and making all the right connections with a lot of great people who were really invested in trying to help me be successful. I was in multiple magazines, I walked in over a dozen fashion shows, was a part of a project that went viral and I was starting to make a name for myself in my local market. My goal was to take my brand international and I finally had my foot in the door to make that happen. When I had my son in 2019 however, I focused on being present and providing for my family and our newest addition. I was juggling fatherhood, working a fulltime and part time job all while trying not to miss the little moments with my son. 2019 was one of the best years of my life and the time away from the industry was felt. Coming back to it post COVID was difficult. I had to come up with a new strategy and focus on rebuilding those connections again. I didn’t give up though and I kept looking for ways to get back to where I once was or better. The hard work and faith paid off and in the end I found my stride again with the help of God.
