Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Barnes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amber, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I’m currently represented, and I also manage parts of my career independently. I met my agent through a professional submission process and mutual industry connections esp when I was on and working for a TV series called OKOP. I decided to work with them because they understood my brand, my long-term vision, and the types of roles I’m aiming for. It felt aligned creatively and strategically.
I believe they chose to work with me because I’m coachable, and serious about my craft. I come prepared, I invest in myself, and I treat this like a business not just a dream. That mutual respect is important.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an actress and creative storyteller focused on emotionally layered, character-driven work. I am also a model, a mom, an executive producer and host. My background is rooted in performance, but my passion for acting deepened when I realized how powerful storytelling is in shaping perspective and creating empathy. I’m drawn to roles that feel real, flawed, complex, and human… especially stories centered around survival, resilience, and relationships.
I got into acting because I’ve always been observant of people… how they speak, how they love, how they break, and how they rebuild. Over time, that observation turned into performance. I started creating my own content and skits as a way to sharpen my skills and build visibility, but my long-term focus has always been television and film. I treat this as a profession, not a hobby. I train, I study scripts deeply, and I approach every role with discipline.
As a creative, I provide performance work for film, television, and digital platforms. I also create character-driven skits and short-form storytelling content. The “problem” I solve, in a sense, is emotional connection. Audiences don’t just want entertainment, they want to feel seen. I specialize in bringing emotional authenticity to characters, especially women navigating complicated circumstances. I’m not afraid of intensity or vulnerability, and I think that sets me apart.
What makes me different is my realism. I don’t play characters on the surface. I dig into motivation, backstory, and psychology. I’m also strategic about my career… from representation to networking to the types of projects I attach myself to. I’m building something long-term, not chasing quick visibility.
What I’m most proud of is my growth. I’ve evolved from creating content independently to securing professional representation and relocating to GA to fully commit to this path. That decision alone reflects how serious I am about my craft.
I want potential collaborators and audiences to know that I’m intentional. I’m passionate, but I’m also disciplined. I respect the work. I respect the industry. And I’m here to build a body of work that lasts. I started off doing background and stage plays then made my way up to where I wanted to be.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think society supports artists best by taking creativity seriously not treating it like a hobby. That means fair pay, access to resources, and real investment in local creative spaces. Cities like Atlanta thrive when artists can afford to stay, collaborate, and build.
Mentorship and community also matter. When creatives support each other instead of competing, the entire ecosystem grows. And audiences play a role too, showing up, sharing work, and valuing independent art keeps it sustainable. My talented & beautiful daughter Autumn Bell is my biggest supporter and I love that I am able to inspire her because she’s into the arts as well, especially drawing & putting things together. I just want her to know that no matter what anything possible if you put God 1st & put in the work. I support all my friends and family. Big S/O to my NC friends and family and even the new friends I made up since I’ve moved down!
So with that being said….S/O to my beautiful mother who is rooting from me back home…. (Lisa Barnes (Rmt, NC) & my sister Ashley Lucas whose been drilling me with these auditions and supporting me from Charlotte, NC) Much love to my Dad and brother that’s not here but still with me in spirit while I’m chasing my dreams. Also to my day 1’s Shanetta Alston, Jessica Lynch, Melissa Rattray, Actor Clifton Pearsall, Actor Jermaine Sledge, Bodyguard/Friend Eric Shields, Rashaad Hudson, Niya Richardson, and besties Roshay Anthony, Jevara Ward, Aunty Leatta Spruill (Killeen, Texas & Cuzzo Adara Spruill) & Angel Johnson) I love them all with everything I have in me esp since I’m ways away but they stood by my side and supported me nonetheless.
As for Atl family and friends..I’m still networking but def my cuzzo Tisha Armstrong & Kirk Armstrong, my work friend Javon Davis, Model & Actress Cierra D Jackson, my new dope friend Actor & Screenwriter Jeff Sprauve and my personal assistant & good friend Britt Banks!! Yeahhhh super blessed!!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. My mission is to tell stories that feel real and emotionally honest especially stories centered around complex women. I’m drawn to roles that explore survival, vulnerability, and strength because that’s what people actually experience in life.
Long-term, I want to build a body of work that makes people feel seen. If someone watches a character I play and feels understood or less alone, that matters to me. I’m not chasing quick fame! I’m building something lasting. My journey is just getting started!! I’m on a mission. More movies otw for sure! God is with me and I thank him for blessing me & allowing me to keep going!
