We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Annastasia Root a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Annastasia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The funny thing about me coming up with the idea to have a business was it is not something I had originally planned to do. I have always been fascinated by gemstones, crystals & other organic materials to be worn as jewelry. In time I had collected random strands of materials over the years, but never really had done anything with them. I had just kept them stored away. In 2021 I became really interested in the different properties that each material carries and started purchasing jewelry to wear with intention. My biggest issue with that, is you spend decent money to have a certain material to wear but it is generally on stretchy string, which never fit me properly or wasn’t durable. I knew I could design something better, and that’s when I decided to start creating with stuff I had broken, or collected through the years. Once I started getting into designing I would show my close friends what I had created & had tons of positive feedback. Also wearing the things I wore, I would get a lot of random compliments on the pieces I had designed. So I decided what the heck, I might as well start making a few extras and advertised on social media and my pieces were getting snagged so quick I was able to reinvest in the materials. It just grew from there. I would say that I do offer a very unique approach into the design of what I create because it is a compilation of knowledge I’ve gained over my lifetime to create intentional pieces. This whole endeavor of being a business owner has been such a rewarding experience to be able to create so many new things, and have my pieces scattered all over.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Annastasia Root, I’m a single mother in her thirties. What had gotten me into my craft I would say is the fact that I am a 3rd generation astrologer. Growing up, my grandma & mother always talked about astrology in depth. Its something we have always paid attention to. My grandma had some books she collected over the years, and when my mother was born & had gotten older, she had taken my grandmas books & added to the collection. Then I was born with a birthday 5 days away from my mother & bonded over our Gemini nature. I also stole all the books when I was old enough to read. I have a full blown library now of a ton of occult knowledge & have studied it since I can remember. I think me being born in the millennial era was a wonderful time to be able to develop a business like this because I had so much access to different forms of knowledge & was able to dive deeper then my mother & grandma. Another base of knowledge that I had gained in my life time was my college education in Psychology. Even if someone isn’t too keen on the energy aspects of the crystals on my table, when you obtain something off of my table, it always comes with the intention behind the piece. So for an example, you purchase a rose quartz bracelet which symbolizes self love. You see that piece on your wrist & have that gentle reminder to be kind to yourself. Placebo affect if you don’t believe. Which leads me into what I have been blessed to be able to do for others with my business and getting into the community with my creations. Through the few years I have been designing and publicly showing what I create I have had some requests to design intentional pieces for people that they wanted to gift to someone close to them. I’ve made pieces to help with relieving anxiety or depression. Pieces for people that struggle with addiction. I have also made a few pieces geared towards easing grief from losing a loved one. I have also been requested to make pieces where someone has sent me pictures of their families eyes & I chose stones that match each one of their eye color designing a piece that incorporates their family. One of those pieces I had to add a new eye color in a year later from a baby being born. My business has allowed me to connect in the community in a unique way, & I am honored each time someone reaches out for me to do this. Custom pieces are my favorite! The main thing I would like people to know about me, and The Root of Craft is that I think it’s so very important for people to be intentional and live intentionally. So anytime I design a piece I put my heart into my work.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would say that my reputation was built in my market off of my friends giving me true honest feedback, and also me constantly trying to tweak my designs till they are as best as they can be. Being very genuine & humble with the work I create has given me a solid reputation as well. I never have looked at my business as just needing to make money. I just want to be able to help people & design beautiful sturdy pieces.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with clients mainly through social media. Facebook being my most solid way to connect with those that have experienced my brand & have decided to stay in touch. Having a community built off of Facebook letting people know where I will be vending gives them the opportunity to come find me & see what I have been creating. Every time you come find me in public & I have all my work with me there is constantly something new. Brand loyalty stems from people experiencing my work, and enjoying having a piece of jewelry designed to fit them specifically that is durable along with the materials being high quality & genuine. People know they are receiving what they are paying for.
