We recently connected with Amy Mewborn and have shared our conversation below.
Amy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to empower women through business ownership.
I spent 15 years in financial planning with 35 very high net worth families, most of whom are business owners. The women were often marginalized and not brought into the family financial decisions. By the time I left finance, almost 50% of our clients were widows. They were left with millions of dollars, but no experience running the businesses, managing the money, or managing the family dynamics when there is family wealth.
We once had a client who came down with shingles from all the stress of overseeing the wealth and holding off the adult children’s financial requests/demands. I truly want to help women create and manage wealth, from a young age and always be informed to make strong, educated decisions.
In addition, over the past few years, women have seen how fragile employment can be. By creating their own businesses and income streams, they are better able to build wealth and their future.

Amy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I spent over fifteen years advising some of the coolest business owners in the world – owners of Ford, Chuck E Cheese, Vinturi Wine Aerator, and multiple tech companies to help manage, grow, and distribute their wealth.
After fifteen years in corporate America in my “dream job”, I knew I was dying a little bit every day going to work and building someone else’s business, someone else’s wealth, and someone else’s dream. In 2010, I left corporate, and built THREE multiple six figure businesses – with almost a million dollars in gross revenue!
Although building a million dollar business is AWESOME on the ego – when I added up all my expenses, my rent, my staffing costs, my marketing costs, my managers, my continuing education, my legal and financial advisors, and all the expenses –
I was WORKING MYSELF TO EXHAUSTION to pay for everyone and everything else!
From the outside, it looked like I had the world at my fingertips. I was paying for coaches, masterminds, traveling for events, and vacationing just to keep my sanity from the perpetual stress! My businesses were growing and it all looked great – from the outside.
On the inside, I was under a tremendous amount of stress. Despite owning fitness businesses, I was gaining weight again, I was exhausted, and I frequently called my parents crying, wondering WHY?
Ultimately, I’m an “achiever” by nature – and I was using my income as my scorecard – whether I really got to keep it or not! After a near breakdown, I decided it just wasn’t worth it any more – and it certainly wasn’t the life I wanted to live!
So I did something that seemed unheard of – I sold the “golden goose” – the business really generating the big income (but also the business that was generating 98% of the expenses) and launched Women Success Society – a company designed to help women build SIX and SEVEN figure businesses with less staff, less stress, more systems, and more income!
Today, I work 4 days a week and I truly love my business again! I love helping women break through that first six figure year. I love helping them clarify the vision for their life and their message for their ideal client, then build offers, marketing, systems, and mindset around JUST what they want to do in their lives!
My perfect client is the woman who is TIRED of working 7 days a week and spinning their wheels. I help them accelerate business growth with better systems, increased productivity, more free time, better messaging, marketing, and mindset – leading to more fun in their business and lives.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In business ownership, we often measure score based on top line revenue. Yet, for most of us, what we truly want is more personal income and more freedom (financial, time, geographic).
In 2015, I was grossing almost a million dollars a year, but I certainly wasn’t taking all that home. I was over-investing in growth, technology, rent, team, coaching, and other learning, and I was working harder than I should have because I was continually focused on growth.
I had actually taken a lot more revenue home two years prior when I wasn’t so focused on growth of the business. My ego was driving so hard to that seven figure number, that I was killing myself in the process.
Today, I realized that I am much happier with a multiple six figure revenue, a small but mighty team, and less overhead.
I have created duplicable systems, I have built onboarding for prospects, clients, and team – so much of my business can run without me having to be the one that do it.
I spend my time in my zone of genius, and am happier, healthier, and enjoy my business so much more than when I was pushing toward a goal based on ego, not my true vision for my life!

Have you ever had to pivot?
Oh goodness! I think that the past few years forced many of us to pivot our businesses. My first coaching program that I ever created (and the one that paid my bills for years) is a program called Studio in a Box. With this program, I help women open successful fitness studios. Because fitness studios were either shut down or dealing with significant regulations, no one was looking at opening a new studio. So my main source of income was shut down immediately on March 17, 2020. Fortunately, I had other trainings, programs, and skills. I had been learning digital marketing, web development, and paid traffic for years.
I immediately pivoted to helping other women with those skills, and my business has now expanded to a number of new income streams and programs (many of which would not exist if I had not been forced to pivot).
I believe firmly that it is through taking imperfect action that we learn important lessons and find a clearer path. Those that see things changing and accept the reality of that change, and transition accordingly are the ones who will typically win!
