We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Bolds. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.
Alicia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I’m very happy being a business owner. I’ve had a hustler mentality since I was a small child selling candy or doing small tasks for money from my family. As I got older I submitted a work permit to start working at the age of 14 to provide for myself and family. When I hit 18 I had two jobs and had a candy store on my college campus to help out other students and put money in my pocket for something bigger than me. At the age of 19 I invested into an eyelash extension class and was ready to give up because business was super slow. In the process I conceived a child in 2017 and I knew the entrepreneur life had to be for me. I finished college in 3 years instead of 4 by taking summer courses all while being pregnant and taking clients. I grew my business by word of mouth, networking, and social media. After graduating Savannah State University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications and minor is Business Management, I decided to take a year to really invest in my business, then enroll in Master Cosmetology school to obtain my license. I started curating natural skincare and selling eyelash products for others along the way. I added on services like facials, hair, waxing, and more. I discovered social media hacks to get more clientele and took off. After graduating and obtaining my license in 2021 I realize social media has a huge influence in todays society. After reaching over a million views on my business videos and getting brand deals from many companies along with magazine interviews, I decided to take it up a notch and teach others. I’ve helped many in my city understand basics of content to grow their platforms. After reaching my peak on social media and business I decided to turn up my personal page with content. I’ve made videos with my family and friends and we’ve also had over millions of views. I can’t see myself being anything other than an entrepreneur. It’s not for everyone but it’s definitely for me. I love the freedom it comes with and being able to provide for my family.
Alicia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Alicia Bolds, 29, and a small town girl from Savannah. Ga. I’m a multiple business owner and content creator. My businesses are Bee’s House of Esthetics & Honey Luxe Hair Co. I do eyelash extensions, facials, hair, full body waxing, brows, body treatments, cluster lashes, & sell raw Indonesian bundles & wigs. It’s hard balancing every task and creating content but I’m grateful and blessed to be able to enhance women and men features by making them feel confident in their skin. What sets me apart from other businesses would be my personality. Many people who’ve encountered me in person and through social media would say they love the energy and the comfortability I bring. I’m most proud of the fact that when people search online for a service or product, my businesses pop up. I love when I network with people and I show them my business or personal page and they get overly excited and say “OMG THATS YOU” . I feel like a celebrity sometimes. I want my followers to know that I’m the same person online and offline and strive for excellence in all my businesses.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I funded my businesses from scratch. My hard earned money, I flipped and made more. I used my account with my square processor and was able to get business loans so I can reinvest as well.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My side hustle turned into my business within a year. Ever since I converted my business has grown to something I never imagined. I’ve been viral all over social media and people from all over the world has supported by businesses through social media and in person.
