One of the best things about video games is the ability to restart – you can use your learnings to move faster and avoid obstacles. We often think about what we would do differently if we were starting over in business and we figured others probably think about this as well and so we asked the community to share their thoughts with us.

If I were to start over today, I’d ask more questions before committing to working with other organizations and contractors. Being selective about who’s on my team and the results they can provide is a huge game-changer. However, my experience is worth its weight in gold. Read more>>

I often wonder how different my career as an engineer might have been if I had discovered this industry sector earlier. Most live sound engineers typically start in a shop or production house before moving on to touring or mixing in local venues, but my path was different. While I gained experience working in smaller venues around Atlanta, much of my learning came from on-the-job training through trial and error. I realize now that having a mentor early on could have made a big difference. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with more seasoned engineers who’ve helped me develop a more efficient process and workflow. I can’t help but think how beneficial that guidance would have been earlier in my career—perhaps it would have saved me a gig or two! That said, I’m grateful for my unique journey. Even without the traditional shop experience or mentorship from the start, my path has shaped me into the engineer I am today, and for that, I’m thankful. Read more>>

Truth be told, I am completely satisfied with the path that God has brought me on this journey! However, if I had to start over and do it all over again I would first start by asking God, “How can I use this gift of photography to help others around me and give you glory as well?” It took me about 2 years to realize that this is bigger than me. I believe that’s just a stat and the ones who have reached true success are at peace and happy within their hearts because they have successfully completed their visions with a foundation set around God and being a selfless individual. I am working my way to this measure of success. In conclusion, I would start with faith and remove doubt because through God all things are possible and with hard work time will tell! Read more>>

If I were starting over, I would plug into women’s business communities sooner. But I also know that I wasn’t ready for that in my business until I felt confident enough personally to show up for myself. Here’s the truth: for most of my life, I avoided communities because I was too shy. I found networking to feel fake, inauthentic, and cringy. So I avoided it. I tried to build my business by myself, as an independent woman who could do it all. That was fine, but plateau’s became my best friend. I had my own battles to fight first before I could accept that I needed others to grow. I had to overcome shyness and social anxiety. Because for most of my life, I was labeled as “the shy girl” who never felt seen or heard. I hid, I didn’t put myself out there, and I kept my head down. But I didn’t love that about myself. I was hiding because I was afraid others would see my imperfections. Read more>>
