Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? So, we asked some very sharp folks to tell us the stories of how they came up with the names of their brands.
Sabrina Jean

Coming how the my buisness name. It’s actually very simple because It’s a studio space it’s a private studio with only me as the artist. Initially I did come up with a bunch of different ideas but I liked the simplicity of The Tattoo Studio By Sabrina Jean. It’s simple and clear that it’s a studio space and it represents me the artist 🤍 Read more>>
Giulia Tripoli

At first it might seem obvious with my last name being Tripoli and my business being named Tripoli Studios Inc. However it wasn’t evident to me at all. When I had the idea back in 2012 to open a new home for dancers, I had no clue what to name it. My best friend sat me down at the time and said : “Well what do you stand for?” I knew I stood for elegance. The idea of always being kind no matter how unkind the world may be. I knew I stood for endurance. One of my favourite quotes is by James Baldwin that states : “Beyond talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck – but, most of all, endurance.” I knew I stood for excellence. The notion to strive to be our best and do our best with the knowledge and capacities we have in that moment. Elegance. Endurance. Excellence. I had 3 main values that all began with the letter E. Triple E = Tripoli = Tripoli Studios Inc. Read more>>

I started brainstorming different names for a cupcake business and sharing them with my mother and a close friend of mine. None of them stood out. Many balled up pieces of paper getting tossed in the trash an frustration was on high. Then about three weeks later, I had a vivid dream of two cartoon images of cupcakes holding hands and I woke up like, Oh my God, thank you God! From that dream “Cupcake Connection” was born and my logo. When God gives you vivid dreams and speak to you it’s best to pay attention and follow His instructions. Read more>>

I came up with Greystone Design Co because I wanted my business name to have the representation of being strong and resilient because that is how I view myself. I went through so many names when I decided to change my business name from my former business name. I felt like my previous name did not represent the changes and the mindset shift that I was embodying, so I wanted a change! Read more>>

Naming a business is definitely one of the toughest steps in building a brand, but for us, it was also an opportunity to make a statement. When we came up with NO LONGER NETWORK, it was born from both a literal and metaphorical place. In the beginning, we primarily focused on short-form content, and the name reflected that—“no longer” referred to the length of the pieces we were creating. It was a fun play on words, signaling that our content wouldn’t be drawn out but still impactful. But as we dug deeper, the name began to take on a much more profound meaning. The entertainment industry, in our view, has been undergoing a slow but significant decline, a collapse accelerated by events like the pandemic and the recent SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. This shift has highlighted some of the industry’s deep-rooted issues—namely, its obsession with profit over passion, and metrics over meaningful storytelling. We saw an industry that had started losing its soul, and we wanted to position ourselves against that trend. Read more>>

This question makes me smile…the name 2 Percent actually came about from an inside banter between my partner and I. We met almost ten (10) years ago, the meeting impossibly random and there was a 2% chance of us ever seeing or being in contact again. In numerology, the number 2 is associated with attributes like balance, duality, cooperation, partnerships and spiritually it is a symbol of service, trust, growth, learning and alignment. That 2%, became my inspiration and reality, a symbol and spark, my reason for the business name and my staple and belief for always going after my goals and dreams and anything that may appear impossible. There is always a 2% chance of success, even if it appears improbable. Naming the company “2 Percent Inc” is also a great conversation starter, as it is unique and memorable, and almost everyone I meet ask about the name and the reasons behind it, so it leaves an impression :) Read more>>
