We asked entrepreneurs, artists, creatives and folks from every walk of life to share stories of kindness with us because we believe that hearing about kindness inspires more kindness. Our world needs more kindness.

There are moments in life when an unexpected act of kindness changes everything. For me, that moment came at a time when I felt lost and uncertain about my future. I had found myself in trouble, thinking that I might never be able to work for someone else again. My professional world felt like it was crumbling, and I questioned if there was any path forward. During my first job out of college, while working as a project manager at an advertising agency, I had the tiniest 150 sq. ft. studio near Canal Street in NYC (2015). The following year, I moved to the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in a studio share (2016). Then, I went to art school and relocated to an art studio in Chicago for a one-year program (2017), before moving back to NYC for my MFA, where I had a different studio each year (2018 and 2019). The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me was, surprisingly, reject me. Rejection is something we all face in life, but experiencing it from a parent is uniquely painful. Growing up, I often felt a deep sense of rejection and abandonment from my father. There were several moments that made me feel as though I was loved and valued less than my siblings. Whether intentional or not, these experiences shaped my perception of myself and the world around me. Read more>>

One of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me was believing in me when I didn’t fully believe in myself. Growing up in a close-knit but low-income community, opportunities weren’t always easy to come by. However, my mother, instilled in me faith, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose. Before I was even born, she prayed and fasted for my life, trusting God to bring me into the world. That unwavering belief became the foundation of who I am today. Read more>>

One of the kindest things anyone has done for me in the context of business, was when Mr. Shawn Flores of ACME Print Co. convinced Dropkick Murphys to watch my band – Larry And his Flask.
We opened for Dropkick Murphys in Bend, Oregon back in 2010. Shawn Flores who owns ACME Print Co. in Massachusetts was working with DM and saw us as we were opening the show. He ran backstage and brought some of the DM guys out to see us play. Read more>>

decided I wanted to make movies. In a move congruent with my demonstrated wisdom thus far, I enrolled at the University of Albany, knowing full well there was not a film program. They offered a Communications major and had some film electives, so I figured I’d pay the cheap state tuition, use the presumably state-of-the-art equipment they had available to make my own stuff, and hey – worst case scenario: I learn something. After almost two semesters of one purely theoretical film course each, and buying my own DSLR because the school camcorder from 2006 wasn’t cutting it, I was resigned to the fact that I would not be returning to the classroom in the fall. I remember when i was first getting into photography i had joined an online local photography group. In this group we would share photos, talk about gear and in general just nerd out about our shared interests. Anyways, I began to share my own photos and i was a fairly active user on this forum, and i would talk about gear i wanted to buy. One of these items being the new at the time Canon eos R, and this guy named Michael chimed in and he started talking about his, and he ended up reaching out to me and offering it to borrow. I jumped at the opportunity, he loaned it out to me complete with a canon 35mm f1.8 lens. Not even knowing my last name this guy trusted me with near $3000 worth of gear, wow. I tested it our for a month and i fell in love with it. after a month of use i returned it back to him and i went out to get my own. Read more>>

Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many friends whom I could choose as family, who were very generous and kind to me in various situations, but there’s one specific situation that marked me deeply. In July of this year, I had minor oral surgery and was unable to eat anything that required chewing. I was in a lot of pain and felt weak from my restricted soft-food diet. One day, my girlfriend was eating grapes and noticed I wanted some. She carefully picked up each grape, cut it in half, and peeled it so it would be easier for me to eat. I was so touched by her care and kindness that I was brought to tears. Read more>>

I think this one might be a cheat, because it’s not related to business at all, directly.
I am a work-aholic, I always have been, and as a result, I don’t take great care of myself. There’s too much to do, you see?
So when my not yet husband saw me at the end of a long day, and offered to wash my feet for me, I cried. I
t brought me back to when I was traveling with my mother in Mexico visiting her sister. That day, we went for a really long walk along some ruins in brand new huaraches, and by the end of it our feet were so dirty, tired and had been bitten by dozens of tiny bugs. Read more>>
