Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Banfield
Hi Kelsey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m currently a coach and the owner of Kelsey Banfield Coaching. I specialize in helping people shape the life they envision. It sounds broad but that’s because it’s so bespoke. Most clients who come to me are looking for a change, either large or small, and are dreaming a little bigger for themselves. We take into account where they want to go and where they are now, then we take pragmatic steps to get there while still leaving some room for the magic. I help give my clients articulate what they are feeling and looking for and give them a structure to make the changes they want. Since most of them already have very busy lives it’s very special to have time with them each week to focus exclusively on them. As a coach I’m an impartial observer of their lives, I’m not a relative or friend from home, so I really cheer for them and root for them as they move toward what they seek.
I came into this line of work because I’ve always been this person in a way. I also had my own journey in the food writing world, navigating critical mindset issues, setting big goals for myself, and was constantly asked by people how I did it. I took all that I knew intuitively and added to it with some education so I can be this person for anyone who needs me. I’ve had firsthand experience with the importance of working on self-trust, switching gears when it’s time for something new, and dancing with the support of the unseen as well as working with practical steps. I’ve written many roadmaps for myself and now find great fulfillment in helping others do the same for themselves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If it was a smooth road I’d have no idea how to guide others! I have an active family life, financial responsibilities, a home to maintain and all that comes with it. I always hate the advice “leap and the net will appear,” because you can’t take risks that might jeopardize your family without a lot of care. I’m more about taking calculated risks. I’ve overspent on projects before when my income plan wasn’t quite as solid as it should have been. I also started my business when our kids were young and it was critical that it had legs within a certain amount of time, I couldn’t afford to hope and dream it was all going to work out.
The struggles that come with any business like mine are maintaining a constant flow of clients and also staying true to yourself and the amount of time you have. I’ve had to learn how to raise my rates and not overextend myself and compromise my family time. I love what I do and there have been times when I’ve been overcommitted to work at the expense of everything else.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a coach I focus on helping people move from functioning in their lives to truly thriving. This is different than therapy in that I do not go into trauma or mental health care for people in a state of dysfunction. I specialize in helping people assess where they are and get where they want to go when they’ve set a goal or goals for their lives and are dreaming a little bigger for themselves. There’s a difference between going about our days and truly living the life we envision. I focus on the latter.
What sets me apart from others is the bespoke nature of what I do and my unique ability read people’s situations. Given my experience and my own intuition I can always pick up on what’s holding people back, where they’re hedging, and can coax out of them what they’re actually looking for. We really dig into what’s on their hearts so the roadmap we write for them is clearly focused on what the outcome they seek. Clients often comment that it’s like seeing through clear glasses again! They’ve known they’re ready for something new, feeling like it’s time for a shift, but don’t know where to begin and how to go about it. Change is hard! I’m proud that I’ve built a brand that helps people realize the lives they want.
Most of my coaching is 1:1, however, I offer workshops on Substack to my paid subscribers. They focus on bigger concepts I teach my clients and I feel will benefit everyone.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always happy to collaborate with others. I love to chat with other professionals on my Substack and invite them to join me on social media.
