Publishing our first couples anthology during the pandemic was both a calling and a challenge. While the world was slowing down, fear, uncertainty, and isolation were increasing. Couples were facing pressures they had never experienced before, and many of our contributing authors were navigating personal, financial, and emotional hardships.

Some of the obstacles we faced included:

* Coordinating multiple authors from different locations while everyone was dealing with pandemic-related disruptions.
* Balancing family responsibilities, health concerns, and ministry commitments while completing the project.
* Navigating technology challenges as meetings, editing sessions, and collaboration moved online.
* Managing publishing timelines that were affected by supply chain delays and industry slowdowns.
* Overcoming emotional fatigue, grief, and uncertainty while still finding the strength to write messages of hope and healing.
* Staying focused on the vision when many people questioned whether it was the right time to launch a new book.

Despite these challenges, we witnessed God’s faithfulness every step of the way. What began as an obstacle became an opportunity. The pandemic reminded us that healthy relationships do not happen by accident—they require intentionality, communication, grace, and commitment. Our anthology became a collection of real stories, practical wisdom, and hope-filled encouragement designed to help couples thrive even in difficult seasons.

Looking back, the obstacles strengthened the project. The very challenges we faced became part of the testimony. What was meant to slow us down ultimately helped us create a resource that continues to inspire couples to pursue unity, healing, and lasting love.

Building Rich Relationships Refuge: A Story of Resilience and Purpose

Building Rich Relationships Refuge has been one of the greatest tests of faith, perseverance, and resilience in our marriage. What began as a calling to help couples thrive grew into a global ministry and media platform that reaches people through social media, podcasts, YouTube, television appearances, live events, books, and our mobile app.

Like many entrepreneurs and ministry leaders, we faced obstacles that no one could see behind the scenes. We invested countless hours creating content, learning technology, building websites, writing books, producing videos, and showing up consistently even when growth seemed slow. There were seasons when resources were limited, family challenges were overwhelming, and the demands of life could have easily caused us to quit.

Instead, we chose to lean into our purpose. Every challenge strengthened our commitment to serve others. Every setback became a lesson in resilience. Every opportunity—from television appearances and podcast interviews to social media engagement and publishing books—reminded us that God can use ordinary people with extraordinary faith to make a lasting impact.

Building an online presence together also strengthened our marriage. We learned how to communicate more effectively, support one another’s strengths, navigate disagreements, and stay focused on a shared mission. The same principles we teach couples—unity, teamwork, trust, forgiveness, and intentional communication—became the principles that sustained us as business partners and ministry leaders.

Today, Rich Relationships Refuge is more than a brand. It is a testimony. It represents the power of perseverance, the beauty of partnership, and the belief that when a husband and wife work together with a shared vision, they can create something that blesses generations.

Our journey has shown us that success is not measured solely by followers, views, or recognition. True success is measured by the lives transformed, the marriages restored, the families strengthened, and the hope renewed along the way.

Have you ever had to pivot?

From Business Owners to Full-Time Marriage Ministry

One of the most defining chapters of our journey was the decision to leave behind what was familiar and financially secure to fully embrace the calling God placed on our lives.

For 28 years, Renée owned and operated a successful salon business. It wasn’t just a source of income—it was a place where relationships were built, lives were touched, and countless conversations about faith, family, and healing took place. The salon provided stability for our family and represented decades of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication.

As God continued to open doors for marriage ministry, coaching, speaking, writing, media opportunities, and serving couples, we sensed a clear calling to step into that mission full-time. Making that transition meant moving from the security of two incomes to relying on one. It was a decision that required tremendous faith, prayer, and trust in God’s provision.

There were moments of uncertainty. We had to learn how to operate in a completely different space, build a digital presence, create content, publish books, develop programs, learn new technology, and grow Rich Relationships Refuge from the ground up. What many people see today—the media appearances, social media platforms, books, podcasts, YouTube channel, mobile app, and ministry outreach—was built through years of consistency, sacrifice, and perseverance.

That transition tested our marriage in new ways. We learned to trust one another more deeply, communicate more intentionally, and stay united around a shared vision. We discovered that purpose often requires sacrifice, and obedience sometimes means stepping away from comfort and certainty.

Looking back, we can see God’s faithfulness in every step. The skills we developed as business owners helped us become better ministry leaders, and the challenges we faced strengthened both our marriage and our mission. What began as a leap of faith has become a testimony of God’s provision and the power of working together as husband and wife.
