We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keevy Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keevy , appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
The seed for Aylion Media was planted in California soil. After completing my final contract in the Navy, I reached a point in life where I wanted to build something for myself; something rooted in passion instead of obligation. I knew I wanted work that felt meaningful, creative, and lasting.
When I looked back over my life, the camera had always been there.
Since childhood, I’ve loved photography and visual storytelling. I would spend hours flipping through photo albums at my grandmother’s house, completely fascinated by the emotions and memories frozen in each image. I also loved creating little sets and scenes out of ordinary things around the house. As I grew older, photography became one of the few constants in my life. Whether I was in front of the camera or behind it, creating images always lit a fire in me that never faded.
At some point, I realized this wasn’t just a hobby I kept returning to — it was part of who I was.
The logic behind turning it into a business came from recognizing two things: consistency and impact. Photography was one of the only passions that stayed with me through every stage of life, and I also saw how much people valued having moments captured in a meaningful way. I understood that creative work is more than just taking pictures; it’s preserving emotion, identity, confidence, and memories people can revisit forever.
The name Aylion itself reflects that journey. It’s a combination of “alien” and “lion.” The alien represents never fully feeling like I fit into one box, while still leaving my mark wherever I go. The lion symbolizes confidence, creativity, and self-expression. I’m an Aquarius born to two Leos, so the name felt like the perfect representation of both my personality and my artistic perspective.
Aylion Media became more than a photography business to me; it became proof that the things that follow you throughout your life are often the things you’re meant to build from.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m the founder of Aylion Media, a creative media brand focused on photography, visual storytelling, and artistic direction. My work primarily centers around portrait photography, fashion, branding content, and creative conceptual shoots designed to help people express themselves visually in a way that feels authentic and impactful.
What drew me into this field professionally was realizing how powerful visuals are when it comes to identity, confidence, and storytelling. Photography is one of the few art forms that can preserve emotion in real time, and I became passionate about creating images that people genuinely connect with rather than simply consume.
One thing I believe separates my work from others is the experience I create during the process. I understand that being photographed can make people feel vulnerable or self-conscious, so I focus heavily on creating an environment where clients feel comfortable, confident, and seen. Some people come into a shoot nervous and leave feeling empowered, and honestly, that transformation is just as rewarding to me as the final images themselves.
Creatively, I’m inspired by emotion, individuality, texture, movement, lighting, and personality. I don’t like work that feels overly forced or disconnected. Whether I’m shooting a fashion event, portraits, or creative content for a brand, I aim to create visuals that feel alive and intentional. I want people to look at my work and feel something instead of just scrolling past it.
Another thing that shapes my approach is adaptability. I’ve worked in fast-paced environments, unpredictable settings, and spaces where creativity has to coexist with pressure and problem-solving. That has helped me develop not only as an artist but also as a professional who can stay calm, think creatively, and deliver under different circumstances.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that reflects who I genuinely am instead of trying to imitate what everyone else is doing. Aylion Media is still growing, but every project, collaboration, and client interaction has helped shape it into something meaningful. I take pride in the fact that people trust me to capture moments, ideas, and versions of themselves that matter to them personally.
More than anything, I want people to know that my work comes from a real place. I care deeply about creativity, connection, and making people feel valued through the art we create together. My goal is not just to provide photos, but to create lasting visuals and experiences that people can return to and appreciate for years to come.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
One resource I wish I had discovered earlier in my creative journey was the Orange County Library System. They offer classes focused on photography studio lighting setups, and as someone who learns best through hands-on experience, that made a huge difference for me creatively.
Having access to structured learning, studio equipment, and practical demonstrations helped me better understand lighting in a real-world setting instead of only trying to learn through trial and error or online videos. Since I work with a smaller studio setup myself, learning how to maximize lighting techniques without needing a massive production space was especially valuable.
I think a lot of creatives underestimate how many free or low-cost community resources exist around them, especially libraries. Programs like that can really help bridge the gap for emerging photographers who want to improve their technical skills but may not yet have access to expensive equipment or formal schooling.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
At the core of my creative journey is a very simple mission: I want people to see the beauty in themselves as easily as they see it in others.
I think a lot of people spend their lives uplifting everyone around them while struggling to recognize their own value, confidence, or uniqueness. Through photography and visual storytelling, I try to create moments where people can see themselves differently; not through insecurity, comparison, or criticism, but through honesty and appreciation.
For me, creativity is about more than aesthetics. It’s about reflection, self-expression, and helping people feel seen. If someone walks away from working with Aylion Media feeling more confident, inspired, or connected to themselves than they did before, then I feel like I’ve done my job successfully.
