We recently connected with Jordana Bresett and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordana, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
As a child growing up in the early 80s late 90s, I started to gravitate towards horror themed books, shows, and activities such as going to Universal or Disney to ride Jaws or The Haunted Mansion. As I got older, my love for the genre, grew stronger and stronger by the day. Our family decided to relocate in 2019 to create the type of lifestyle we wanted. Not long after we moved, Covid hit and we entered a lockdown. During that time, I realized I wanted to create a space for fellow horror lovers come and talk about all the things we love. That quickly evolved into a podcast hybrid along with my page dedicated to horror.

Jordana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When I created Pretty Killer Podcast, I had zero expectations going in. The main focus was to connect with like-minded individuals who love and appreciate horror the way that I did. I have never had a personality online so navigating my way through my page has been one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve learned over the years how to elevate my page and stay true to who I am. The one rule that I applied to myself is to stay true who I am. I also wanted to create a space where people felt safe, giving their honest opinions about the topics that were being discussed. Inclusion is also very important to me. I want everyone to feel like they have a seat at the table.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Not only am I proud of what Pretty Killer Podcast has turned into, but I’m also happy with the personal goals that I set aside for my page. I recently sat down with one of my favorite horror directors Damian McCarthy to discuss his new movie Hokum and that was a huge milestone for me. When I started my page, I found his movie Caveat early on and loved it. Having him on was a full circle moment for Pretty Killer Podcast. Another massive pivoting point was when I shifted from creating content to writing a horror movie that I’ve had in my head for quite some time now. Last year I wrote that horror movie with one of my best friends and horror authors Alan Shivers, so hoping to be on the other side of content creating in the years to come!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of the biggest driving forces for me is being an inspiration to anyone who thinks their dreams are not possible. I am a mom and I want my child to see that if you love something and you’re passionate about it, anything is possible. I was made fun of a lot as a child for liking horror, but that never stopped me from pursuing my dreams.
