Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Weisent. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Emily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am definitely happier as a business owner. It’s a lot more work, but absolutely worth it. I haven’t thought about going back to a regular job, but I have thought about how stressful it is being a business owner and that it is a 25/7 job where you’re wearing so many different hats, but I wouldn’t change anything. I’m so much happier owning my business, being able to do what I love every day, and being able to meet so many amazing people.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Emily and I own Goddess Sugaring and Esthetics in Winter Park! I’ve been an Esthetician for 7 years and I’ve specialized in sugaring for 5 years. Sugaring is a form of hair removal that is made of sugar, water, and lemon. It’s a more gentle and effective way to remove hair. I also specialize in brows! I decided to start my own business 2 years ago when my youngest daughter was a couple months old and my oldest daughter just started kindergarten. There were so many challenges that came with starting my business when my kids were still so young. My youngest daughter would only breast feed, so my husband would bring her up to the salon every hour and a half to nurse. Two years later, and it was truly all worth it. I’m so thankful for the community we’ve built and the amazing clients I have! I enjoy giving back to the community by partnering with my clients and non-profits to do fundraisers and toy and food drives! I want my daughters to see that anything is possible and they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe what has helped me build my reputation in the industry and community is the genuine connections I make with my clients. We truly become like friends and I enjoy spending time with them and swapping stories in the treatment room. It feels like girlhood and the type of environment and community I’ve always wanted. I’m forever thankful for them, because without my amazing clients I wouldn’t have the thriving business I have now.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
My husband actual inspired me to get my business started by helping me purchase everything I needed to get started and took care of our bills while I become established. I’m so grateful for him and his support, it really gave me the push I needed to do what I’ve always wanted to do, which was start my own business.
