We recently connected with Angela Valentino and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I believe the biggest leap of faith or risk I’ve ever taken in my life was when I moved to the United States; I had to start my life and career from scratch. I’m a makeup artist and I’ve been working in the entertainment business for 20 years. It’s a very complicated world, especially if you have to restart your career from scratch because you’re in a new country. But to this day, it has been the most significant and important choice of my life. I’ve lived in New York for 11 years and I currently have my own company, Angie Valentino NYC LLC, and I work on theatrical productions and films.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my professional journey in Milan, Italy. I graduated in Set Design for the Performing Arts from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and subsequently earned a second degree in Costume Design for the Performing Arts from the same academy. After university, I graduated as a professional makeup artist from the BCM Cosmetics school in Milan with top honors. I started working for La Scala Theatre and Italian television, but later began collaborating with several high-fashion brands such as Versace, Moncler, Cavalli, Scervino, Fendi, etc. Meanwhile, I also started traveling extensively for work throughout Europe and beyond, but my dream had always been to go to America since I was a child. So I decided to leave and challenge myself, and I must say, with great success. It wasn’t easy; it was a journey full of sacrifices and renunciations, but I currently collaborate with theaters and film productions in New York and opened my own company last year.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The social media platform I use the most is Instagram. I try to include as much information as possible on my profile, posting videos or photos related to my work every day. The most successful part of my posts are definitely the special effects makeup tutorials; those are the posts that get the most engagement.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Sincerely I believe that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to see things differently and to completely reinvent myself every time. Creativity is the key to my success; without creativity, my work would cease to exist. Creativity makes me feel good, it gives me the energy to generate new ideas, and this allows me to succeed in everything I do.
