We asked entrepreneurs, artists, creatives and folks from every walk of life to share stories of kindness with us because we believe that hearing about kindness inspires more kindness. Our world needs more kindness.

When I was 15 years old, an American family brought me to the US, took me in as a son, enrolled me in middle school and supported me for a year. Living with them for a year transformed my life, gave me a sense of direction and helped me on a path to becoming a responsible and successful professional. I cannot imagine where I would be today if I hadn’t received this family’s support. Read more>>

The kindest thing someone has ever done for me is working behind the scenes to pretect me vs that who protect me on a day to day basis. For example, this person (they know who they are) makes sure I stay in the righteous path. Whether it’s speaking with me directly, working through others indirectly or using the six degrees of separation in a subliminal manner, he or she make sure I’m well positioned and ready for the next challenge in my life. I can name so many blessings i’ve received. But, the one I am deeply grateful and thankful for is not only someone taking a chance to use me as a model for them via recommendation from someone else I worked with, but then also 1. becoming a close and dear friend, 2. become what I think would be my mentor in a lot of ways, to then 3. creating my entire modeling website for me! This occurred nearly two decades before I switched careers to pursue my art practice full time. Yet it has been a guiding light in how I choose to act and react to what is happening around me, to me and with my interactions with others. It may not be literally the “kindest” thing anyone has every done for me, but in this stranger’s act of kindness and empathy, it changed in the most positive of ways how I approach life and others, and that is a gift of kindness in the most expansive of ways. For an assignment in one of my English classes in college, we had to go and see a play and write a response. I randomly chose a rinky dink show in the basement of the arts building and enjoyed it so much that I looked up the playwright: Eric Samuelsen. To be honest, at the time, I was shocked! The play was about a couple driving from BYU to Nevada so that the wife could engage in s*x work to get them a little cash. Seriously, I was like, “what the f*ck,” but in a very mormon, “what the f*ck,” way. Read more>>

Understood me. The kindest thing any person has ever done is understand that I’m a work in progress that’s also always buffering. I’ve been listened to by people who have conquered some of the biggest obstacles and yet they still see me as an equal. It’s astonishing. Truly. Read more>>

Growing up in the inner city, I never had much luck coming across kind and caring folks. Thankfully, there was one instance of the act of kindness that holds a special place in my heart til’ this day. I was roughly 6-7 years old at the time and it was my mother and I sharing a small house with two of my grandparents. They were getting older and it was hard for them to take care of me while my mom was working 2-3 jobs constantly. As a child at the time, I had trouble speaking and communicating with others. I only knew about 7 words max and didn’t know how to properly form a sentence. Read more>>

To date, the kindest thing a client has ever done for me was gifting me personalized items at the end of catering their girls’ trip. It was already an incredible honor that they asked me to cater for their second trip in a row, especially since they were my very first booking when I started my business. Read more>>

Prior to getting my real estate license, I held modest 9-5 positions, though I had no real path to getting ahead in my life. I had also worked as a freelance real estate photographer which I enjoyed despite lacking financial security. I would be remiss if I did not express my gratitude for all of my past employers and co-workers for providing all of these opportunities to me. Many of these kind folks are still in my life today. One of the nicest things that somebody has ever done for me is to refer me for a job opportunity, when they barely knew me and didn’t need to or have to. At the same time, I was looking for a touring gig in 2019 and had been actively interviewing for a Production Assistant / VIP position with a country band. I made it to 5 rounds of interviews and, ultimately, they went with somebody internally that they knew. Read more>>
