We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trapdanny Phantom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Trapdanny, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I used to play any instrument I could get my hands on, and play it by ear. I knew then I’d be a musician of some kind, but never thought I’d be a white dreadlocked rapper. My cousin DJ-C had a studio called southwest studios, I took my singing knowledge and paired it with his old school hip hop, and began to write my own rap.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into rapping from my cousin DJ-C but locked it in with my other cousin Gk. He made new style beats, jersey, house, and trap, and it gave me a new path of music to explore. Now I work through smoothe music studios, and also record in my own home studio. I can give a range of song styles and genres depending on what other artists need from me and also have been mentoring other local rappers with less experience. I own a group called KS9 and have always scouted for new talent to help out in the rap game!

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Not worth a dime, best way to scam your fans/ followers legally I guess! Everyone who’s ever got one in my group has highly regretted it.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The industry needs to go back to Apple Music style where you buy the song $0.99 each instead of streaming for micro cents. But most problems lie with the consumers not wanting to spend money on shows/ help you grow, they only support if you already have a buzz. Then they hop on when the times are good.
