Kindness begets kindness. So, wanted to create a space to share and amplify stories of kindness with the hope that it inspires a chain reaction.

I’m on my fourth kidney! The kindest thing that anyone – actually that TWO people – has ever done for me was donating their spare. When I was a teen I was diagnosed with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and needed dialysis while potential living, related donors were worked up to see if they could donate to me. After six months of dialysis (for three hours, three times a week), my Dad was my first kidney donor! I was able to go back to a “normal” teenage life and for 18 years the kidney served me faithfully. Read more>>

When I started my MFA(Master of Fine Art) at Colorado State University, I was not confident in my English speaking. My advisor Prof. John Gravdhal offered me a full scholarship that can cover tuition and living expenses for teaching undergraduate students one school year. I said I am still not confident in speaking and you can give this offer to another grad student. However, John trusted me and said I could study the material one day before teaching undergraduate students and teach them. Read more>>

I’ve had so many kind people help guide and mentor me on my path, but my sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Mitchell was one of the first people, besides my parents to push me toward becoming who I am today. I started my sixth-grade year at a new school, and as an introverted kid with social anxiety, I was terrified of this new environment. Mrs. Mitchell quickly recognized my obsession with making art (and my anxiety and shyness) and took it upon herself to nurture my interests. Read more>>

Kindness is an energy I’ve never taken for granted- understanding since infancy the power of it – and power of its absence – and how it forms you and stays within for a lifetime. I reflect on it often and am flooded with honor for the smallest of gestures. My earliest memory of what I felt was a grand and impactful act towards me was around the age of 8 or so… i had a best friend for a brief time then, Mallory, she was pretty and confident, and she was the first to show me I was worth investing effort in to help me overcome and prove to myself I was able. She did this by showing me through trickery.. Clever girl. Read more>>

The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is tell me how much I “wasn’t capable…” In fact, I have been told myriad similar versions from “you don’t know how to…” or “you can’t…” to “this isn’t a real business…” As an old acting coach once told me, I am excellent at taking my “s**t and turning it into gold.” I AM a highly driven self-starter—a kick-ass-fierce-and-fiery-Aries-with-Leo-rising-Goddess formerly quite adept at transmuting every negative into a positive! Maybe that’s why I have earned lovingly bestowed nicknames such as the “Canna fairy godmother in combat boots” (that one followed a talk I presented at a national women’s conference while wearing a pair of purple mandala covered combat boots). If I had to choose one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me, it would be believing in me. I have been blessed with the most loving family that champion me on my journey. However, the person who has supported me the most along the way is my mom. Since I can remember, my mom has been there to demonstrate unconditional positive regard at its finest. When I experienced innumerable obstacles on my path to prosperity and could have taken them as signs to turn around, she’d encourage me to stay – and stayed there with me. Read more>>

One of the kindest things that anyone has ever done for me was a gesture that in and of itself was not intended to be out of kindness, but had a life-changing impact that allowed me to believe in myself and see my value in the corporate world. After working for ten years at a company to help build and grow it from a $1M to $13M powerhouse and to eventually an industry-changing acquisition, I found myself in the environment of a very IT start-up, tech centric company where I faced numerous challenges trying to find my way in the new environment. There are countless acts but one that left an impression on me was a friend showing support when I first started my YouTube channel. Some of my best thinking comes in my car. It’s like the stream of consciousness flows when I drive. I’d have an idea or realization and want to share it! So I’d position my phone down by the console and record myself from this terrible angle. I had to keep my hands on the wheel so it was the audience looking up at me, I’m sure I had a lovely double chin. Read more>>

This is the story of how I became an artist and the story of how I officially became a professional artist and how Brian’s Dots started. Coincidently they both invovle acts of kindness. First, becoming an artist is still crazy to me because as a kid growing up I didn’t make art, I didn’t consider myself artist in the least bit. My time was spent playing sports and riding my bike around time. When I was a teenager I had a life changing injury that completely changed everything in my life. As I got into my early twenties I got to such a low point. I felt so lost, depressed and hopeless. Read more>>
