Every moment is heartwarming when my patients walk into my office, and I can tell they are getting better just by looking at their appearance. A pretty red sweater with pink blush on the cheeks tells me more than any words. I instantly know that the person finally has a space in their mind to find themselves in the mirror and try to brighten up again. I can see that they are able to go more places with their loved ones when they confidently walk in without a cane. These experiences also inspire me to work on myself to be in a good condition; working out even after a long day, resolving insurance problems right away, and accepting no-shows can happen. I had a client that was pregnant with her first child. She came to me with concerns about her pelvic floor and how this would impact her birth. She had a long history of pelvic pain and tension, and had scheduled a C-section because she was convinced there was no way she could give birth vaginally. We worked on reducing fear and decreasing her pelvic floor muscle tension, and gradually she started to think maybe she could consider trying for a vaginal delivery. As we continued working together she decided to cancel her scheduled C-section. She ended up giving birth vaginally to a beautiful baby girl. When she sent me the news I was glowing with happiness for her. To be able to help someone feel empowered in their body and comfortable trying for the birth they wanted was such a gift. Read more>>

My name is Kirson Barnes, and I am the Director of Programs and Marketing at Transplants for Children (TFC). I have a special place in my heart for this organization, as I am a 2-time kidney transplant recipient. I am not only a huge advocate for their mission, but I have lived it. Growing up, my single mother and I were very fortunate to have been introduced to TFC and the programs we still offer today. I earned 4,000 dollars in scholarships that I used for college classes. Eventually, I had the honor to become a mentor with TFC for younger transplant recipients and their transition journey from pediatric to adult healthcare. Moving forward a few years, I was offered a position as the youth program coordinator. I have now been a part of the staff for 3 years and have grown with the organization. Read more>>
