TAWANDA STORY

Many of the clients I serve, have been diagnosed with Dementia. One client in particular is now 94 years old, and a skilled musician. She played the piano and organ in her church, and also taught piano lessons to youth in her community. When I arrived to assess her for the first time, her daughter informed me of her musical background, and I was immediately drawn to her. My mother pushed me to sing at the age of six, and not much after I was too attending piano lessons every Saturday morning. Read more>>

One of the reasons we love what we do is the miraculous healing that happens when kids start chiropractic care. We have cared for many amazing kids, but my favorite story is about an eight-year-old boy with Autism. He was non-verbal and not potty trained. There was a lot more going on, but those were the things his wonderful mom wanted our help with. Through many months of care, it seemed we were only making short progress. One day, his mother said goodnight and I love you to him as she always did every night. Only this time, he responded, “I love you too,” for the first time in his ENTIRE life. Read more>>

An incredible story of personal transformation. Ali Smith, Atman Smith, and Andrés González, the founders of the Holistic Life Foundation, share how yoga and meditation transformed their lives and, in turn, empowered thousands of historically underserved kids in Baltimore to do the same. For 20 years, these remarkable men have shared mindfulness, yoga, and wellness practices in public school systems and beyond, breathing life back into a community destroyed by drugs, poverty, and systemic racism. We often say we’re in the business of changing lives, not just pain. There’s so many examples of how this plays out in the clinic. But one that sticks out to me begins with a client of mine who was dealing with chronic low back pain, which she attributed to long hours sitting at a desk with little to no exercise level. One of the most special things about my job is when clients truly open up to me and we get into the emotion reason behind why they finally decided to try physical therapy. Read more>>

One of the kindest things anyone ever did for me was invest their time and energy in me with out asking for anything in return. It was a selfless act of kindness that truly changed my life. In 2019 while working at a behavioral health hospital, I had the opportunity to cover a colleagues maternity leave in our intake department at the hospital. I’ve always been eager to learn new things and expand my skill set and so when the opportunity was presented to me I decided to jump on it. Read more>>

In 2017 I awoke with a nagging headache that I could not shake. I proceeded with my day thinking it would go away. As the day went my symptoms progressed to numbness and tingling in my right arm, slurred speech, and difficulty walking. My husband called 911 and was able to get me to the hospital where I was diagnosed with a clot in my brain causing a stroke in my 30s. I was devastated to be in the hospital with difficulty speaking and an inability to use my left hand. Read more>>

Many times, potential clients ask me what are my thoughts on their children being present during the birthing process. I preface my response with one of my favorite stories that happened to be one of the most memorable births during my schooling. As I was halfway through Midwifery school, there was a point where I began teaching childbirth education at the birth center I precepted at. There was an expectant mom whose husband traveled in and out of the country for business, and the schedule in some instances was unpredictable. Read more>>

The most heart warming moment in my Yoga career was at the Asheville Yoga Festival ( Now called Love Shine Play festival). It was my very first time teaching at a festival let alone out of town. I was super excited and even ended up collaborating with a wonderful musician. I think what touched my heart was not only were Yogis of all shapes, sizes and colors there, but even those who were less fortunate got the opportunity to practice yoga with me. Read more>>
