What’s in a name? A lot apparently, as entrepreneurs, artists, and makers of all kinds spend enormous amounts of energy searching for the right name for their business, project, organization, or creation. Below, you’ll find the stories of how various successful brands, creators and entrepreneurs came up with their names.

Once I recognized the cultural similarities between the motorcycle and rugby worlds, I wanted to capture that in the name, specifically highlighting the social/party aspect. While the activities of riding a motorbike vs playing rugby vary quite a bit, they attract a similar type of personality and both take a lot of grit. You have to work hard and “earn your place” if you will – not just anyone can tolerate and enjoy 3,000 mile road trips or years of smashing into people. Not only do these people work hard, but they play harder and socialize in the same manner. I often times couldn’t tell you which I enjoyed more – riding bikes, playing rugby, or the socials/parties that occurred afterwards. Read more>>

My brand is very personal in that I share about myself, my life, my hobbies, and I often develop close friendships with my clients – so I wanted then name of my brand to feel relevant to me personally, as well. A big theme in my life ever since graduating from high school and starting my business has been “defiance:” in dropping out of college at 20 to run my business full-time, in leaving the religion I was brought up in (something I share about often with my audience), in defying the expectations I had for myself and that my family/parents/the people I knew had for me to instead be my own boss. Even in the way I run my business and the way I teach SEO, I defy a lot of the norms in the industry – I teach from a somewhat untraditional perspective looking at SEO holistically rather than completely strategically and formulaically, and I teach entrepreneurs SEO/blogging in a way that actually makes sense to THEM rather than teaching in a boring, confusing, overwhelming manner. When I decided to open my transaction coordination business, I began by researching my ideal clients: successful real estate agents and title companies. I am fortunate to be married to a real estate broker so I also consulted with him early in the process to better understand what agents look for in a transaction coordinator. Read more>>

Well coming up with the name for my brand and business turned out easier than I thought it would be. First I prayed about it and discussed it with my family, then the realization came to me that I am a creator, and I want people to create with me. So, the name CreateWithMikell Enterprises, LLC came to be. The whole goal of my business is to tell amazing stories, be it screenplays for the big screen, short stories for audio listening or commercials for advertising. Recently, I have begun the process of creating a comic book, and anyone who has created a comic book knows it takes a team and I need people willing to work, i.e. create with me to get these amazing stories to the public. I came up with my skincare brand’s name by combining the two main ingredients names together – Cacao and Tallow = CaCow Co. Beauty. It was an exciting moment when this popped into my head, it came very naturally just as I was making a batch for myself, I had no plans to make it a brand or business and offer it to the public, it was just a for me self care thing, but the name showed up and I was like hmmm.. ☺️ Read more>>
