I entered veterinary medical school with a disability. While I had been experiencing the difficulties of my health decline throughout undergrad, the changes and rigor of becoming a doctor were entirely new. I had to work with faculty and staff to ensure accommodations were in place to create a learning environment that would work for me. I found friends who supported me and made vet school worthwhile. Education and training are tools which provide crucial knowledge when working to grow in your profession. There are significant anecdotes that i can reflect on as part of my growth process. During the completion of my dual track master’s degree program in rehabilitation counseling and mental health counseling, I was privileged with two valuable resources which allowed me to support my clients as best as possible. The Rehabilitation Counseling program at Florida International University instilled a discipline of always having the empirical and substantial fact to support an idea, a line of thinking, and the importance of recognizing the abilities and strengths of others.
