Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Lindsey
Hi Steven, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve had a diverse journey, and I’ll try to break it down. When social media took off, I felt it was important to establish my identity. I wanted to be known for my authentic personality, my great taste in music, my social skills, and my ability to support others. I started with a YouTube channel called “Keep It Fetch,” where I discussed relatable and inspiring topics. This lasted about 3 years. At the same time, I was building the brand “StevieSoFetch,” which became how everyone identified and connected with me on social platforms. I also started live tweeting about popular reality shows on Twitter, which unexpectedly brought in a new audience. After a few years, my friend Malik approached me with the idea of creating a podcast. Although I was hesitant at first, I thought about the potential impact on my brand and the LGBTQIA community. Considering all aspects, I joined the podcast, which we named HIM. We discussed topics that many in our community weren’t addressing and took it upon ourselves to give them a voice. The podcast was a success for many years, and we were able to gain a great deal of support, To fast forward a bit, well in the podcast I wanted to still make sure I did whatever I could make sure I was standing on the purpose I knew my life was created for, so which that I started created even more segments. The birth of my advice segment called “#DearYall” came about, and just to give a quick summary, the segment is all about me giving out advice on life issues from space in that they could understand that they aren’t alone with anything and they can make it through everything. And, that’s why I enjoy doing it because of the amazing feedback I’ve been able to receive from people who’ve seen the videos. During the pandemic, I was living in New York at the time and there was no access to the outside, so being confined to the house left me with a lot of time to think and develop another idea that would expand my brand even more. I have also been so fascinated with how talented black queer artists are, so much so that I created an entire promotional segment for them called “#IndieArtistSpotlight”. Within the whole segment, I’ve been able to interview and promote over 21+ artists. I’m also responsible for many of these same artists going on to collaborate with each other and become friends. I would be unfair to myself to not mention how proud I am of my life and all the beautiful creations I’ve brought to the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If I can be honest, the road hasn’t been the easiest but with all the hard work I’ve put in I’ve been able to do better and become more confident in the progress I’ve made.
A struggle that stands out in front of the rest was the fact that through it all, I just kept doubting myself because I would see something in someone else and believe that I should be further than I was. That inner self can cause a bunch of self-doubt and force you of the track of success and happiness.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Social Media Personality is the title I’ve taken on because my personality is the force that keeps me relevant on social media. Some would say I’m known for bringing positivity back to the spaces we occupy which have become filled with toxicity and echoes of hatred. I pride myself on making as much of a difference as I can and making many feel comfortable. I’m most proud of just being able to connect and grow in the authenticity that I embody and don’t shy away from. And to answer your question of what sets me apart from the others, there’s only one of me, and there will never be another. Do with that as you please.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Seeing as social media is my most accessible area and what I tend to connect with people the most, I would say following me at @StevieDerrick_ (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok) would serve people best. As for any collaborations, business opportunities, etc, email me, at steviederricklindsey@gmail.com. With all that the support will follow I’m sure of it.
