Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Phillips
Hi Roger, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First may I say thank you for another opportunity to share my story again with your readers. I am a husband, a father, a grandfather, a gospel artist, a music producer, a singer/songwriter, a voiceover artist, a former radio air personality and a two time cancer survivor. I am known as GWP (God’s Warrior Prazin’)
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In my life as with anyone’s life there have been a lot of ups and downs. I had kind of a rough childhood. I didn’t have the greatest relationship with my parents. My mom and dad split up early in my life, and I didn’t have a really good relationship with her after they split but I went on. I had one failed marriage before meeting my awesome wife, But even after that things were a little rocky. We had a lot financial challenges, trying to take care of 5 kids. My wife had 6 kids when we met, I raised 4 of them and we have one child together, Many of those issues changed after relocating to a place with more and better opportunities, But just when I thought things were getting better, I was diagnosed with cancer for the first time. And then five years later a second cancer diagnosis which was more devastating than the first one was.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been involved in music and the arts in one form or another for my entire life I have been a singer/songwriter since the age of 12. I write and produce and sing all my own music. I think I am best known for my singing voice. I am most proud of my tenacity. I’m not where I wanna be yet, but I won’t give up till I get there. After my second bout with cancer I had a shirt made that says in big white letters “FIGHT TILL YOU WIN!” that’s kinda my philosophy of life
What matters most to you?
My family and my faith. I don’t know what I would do without either of those things. Through the hardest times of my life, my wife has been there for me. The daughter we have together is my “ride or die”. They have kept me going when I didn’t want to keep going. My faith in God also means everything. I have heard the voice of the Lord in many of my darkest hours. Especially dealing with cancer, Cancer doesn’t play fair, with all the fear and anxiety you deal with. It’s a hard thing to experience,
Even harder if you have no family and no faith.
