We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
1. Your Story
My journey began in Alexandria, Egypt, where my passion for music blossomed at an early age. Between 1997 and 1999, I started creating mixtapes using two cassette players manually connected—a humble but innovative way to express my creativity. By 13, I was selling these mixtapes to friends, which sparked my entrepreneurial spirit. By 16, I moved to the Red Sea area to pursue music full-time as a resident DJ, performing at prestigious venues and resorts like Hilton and InterContinental. Over the years, my music evolved, and I embraced Afro-house—a fusion of African rhythms, Oriental melodies, and underground beats. Today, I’m proud to call New York City home, where I continue to push boundaries, create music, and perform for audiences worldwide.
2. Obstacles/Challenges
It hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was starting out without formal training or access to professional equipment. Early on, I had to rely on creativity and resourcefulness to make my mixtapes and sets stand out. Moving to the Red Sea as a teenager to pursue music full-time was also daunting, as I had to build a name for myself from scratch in an unfamiliar environment. Over the years, breaking into international markets and establishing Afro-house as a recognized genre posed additional challenges, but perseverance, innovation, and staying true to my roots have helped me overcome these hurdles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a solo artist, DJ, and producer, I specialize in Afro-house, blending traditional African sounds with modern beats. My music incorporates Swahili vocals, percussion, and Oriental melodies alongside Latin and underground house influences. I’m proud to have been recognized as The Sound of Africa and a pioneer of the Afro-house movement. What sets me apart is my dedication to preserving cultural heritage while pushing creative boundaries. Whether producing tracks like Oasis Dream or curating events like African Night in New York, my goal is to unite people through music and create memorable, culturally rich experiences.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending hours crafting mixtapes in my room using two cassette players. It was a simple setup, but it allowed me to experiment with sound and express myself in ways I had never imagined. I’d sell these tapes to friends, and seeing their excitement fueled my passion for music. That time marked the beginning of my journey and laid the foundation for everything I’ve achieved today.
