Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel White
Hi Gabriel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out born on the Northern Oregon Coast, near an estuary and the cold, rough Pacific Ocean. Both my mother and father did various art, and in the first part of my life my father made a living as a potter and watercolor painter. I was exposed to much music and art early on. Throughout my life, although I’ve done some arts more than others, they have all just been vehicles to express various internal sensations and feelings. I carry many of those senses around with me on a continuous basis and they all are routes for the internal to reach the external and create a greater connection between the self and the outside. Tech house music is one of the most specific of those routes, and now one that I’m more skilled at than other arts.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We all have our strengths and weaknesses. The characteristics I have to bring to electronic dance music production is a clear voice and vision, and a punk-esque embrace of the DIY approach that the production world is very well suited for, and which leads to a prolific rate of work. The last time I was interviewed by CanvasRebel, I was proud to cite twenty-five tracks released in 2023. Although we have several months left in 2024, even if nothing else is signed this year, I have thirty songs set to be released this year. The bumps in the road are the other side of this coin – I am always laboring to refine my productions and make them the absolute best quality I can. Refinement in electronic music production, mixing, and mastering is very prevalent today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets me apart from others in my electronic music production work is a blistering pace of release, and an irreverent vision of tech house – it is about cats, butts, lasers, glowsticks, dancing, fun hats and sunglasses – all the wonderful glowing things at a party. My synesthesia and love for salacious television and movies combine for a unique and very fun vision of tech house. If the song is from Leopard Step, it is probably naughty!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
P-R-O-D-U-C-T-I-V-I-T-Y
That is absolutely my greatest superpower at music creation – getting things done. I am fortunate not to be possessed of the paralysis of perfectionism and self-doubt that afflicts so many producers. This world needs more fun and filthy tech house songs. When I have an idea, it needs to get finished! So that’s what I do – sit down at the DAW and make the idea get finished.
