We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

When my 60 year old client told me the fashion industry had forgotten her, that she felt invisible and she had begun to dress in an effort to disappear, I knew something had to change. I asked myself, was there a need for a fashion line specific to the over 50 woman, one that addressed the needs of a body that had changed from pregnancies, menopause and life? I started a blog, Celebrate The Gray with the goal to talk to 100 women over the age of 50 to find out the reality of finding clothes as women age. Read more>>

For all my ventures, I’ve focused on amplifying stories untold that need to be heard. The data company I founded in 2009, now a publicly traded data firm, RIWI Corp., is a company that surveys people in places of the world rarely if ever surveyed, like Ethiopia, Yemen and war-torn Ukraine. My newest book, “Accelerated Minds: Unlocking the Fascinating, Inspiring, and Often Destructive Impulses that Drive the Entrepreneurial Brain” (Sutherland House Books) is about telling the stories of “quiet entrepreneurs,” the values-based entrepreneurs driving our collective prosperity, and the science of why these entrepreneurs take the risks they do — and sometimes suffer for doing so. What fuels me is that, like many entrepreneurs, I hate bullies. Bullies like to shut people down. I love technology and solutions that empower quiet voices. I’m inspired, too, by my late father, the famous dopamine scientist Philip Seeman, who explained to me how the chemical, dopamine, affects different people in different ways. Read more>>

It’s been said and it’s true. Empowered women empower women. My passion comes from being in a place where I didn’t operate as my best self. I can’t say that I didn’t know better because I did. I was just in a place where I settled. I went through a season that was so unnecessary if only I had just been bold enough to enforce my boundaries. The crazy part is the whole time women were being sent to me to uplift and encourage. We all know that it’s easier to give advice sometimes than it is to take it. I’m here to help women understand who they are sooner than later, because some lessons you don’t have to learn when you have some one in your community with the experience. I am encouraged by all the women I have been able to coach. The constant feedback about how I’ve helped them pushes me even harder. This is what it’s all about and I’m happy to be here and walking in my purpose. Read more>>

Paws of Honor, Inc. was officially created by the Director, Bob Youngblood in 2015. But the idea started long before then. Youngblood says, “I was sitting in my office in McLean, Virginia at 9:37 looking out the window and talking on the phone to my wife about the attack to the Twin Towers in New York, when I saw plumes of black smoke rising from the direction of Arlington/Washington D.C. The Pentagon had been hit and I had friends and clients that worked there. One of my clients is the Pentagon K-9 Protection Force, and they would be the first responders. On that day, lives were lost and lives were changed, and I knew I wanted to help.” Read more>>

Atacama Home was a passion project of Dora Medrano and Javier Carbo, who traveled all over Latin America, Spain and Portugal, and found that “Latin design” was highly misrepresented in the design world. They started this brand to bring high-end, luxury, hand-made decor to the US and prove these misconceptions wrong, and promote Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese artisans and designers. It all started many years ago when Dora and Javier had a production company making commercials for the US Hispanic Market. Having a background in production design, Dora helped with this project’s set, which was supposed to be the inside of a Hispanic family’s home. Read more>>

As a little girl I always knew my “Life Purpose” involved working with people and kids. I had a rough childhood and experienced a lot of sexual and emotional abuse. I grew up in broken home, with an addict mother in poverty. I had a hard time in school, due to my dyslexia and severe trauma. I learned at a young age what it was like to be left behind and I knew deep down in my heart that I was here to minimize similar situations and experiences from happening to others. Not everyone is brought into a safe and healthy home. Many of us, often seek a safe haven to rehabilitate self from the pain and suffering inflected by others and the darkness of the world. Authentik Home exists to create homes that are curated, elevated, and inspire our clients to experience their best lives. This is more than a mission statement; it is a code I live by. Interior Design has historically been an industry built on luxury and feels out of reach for most people. I aimed to create a different approach; our vision started with a want to make interior design more accessible to those who may not have considered their space as “design worthy.” Read more>>

Peter’s Pit Stop exists to provide purpose, productivity, and skills for adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Our organization started back in 2020 when Peter was laid off from his job at a coffee shop in downtown Charleston. When the coffee shop restarted its operation, Peter was not hired back. Despite his love for work, we searched the local community for job opportunities but found none. After much prayer on the subject, the idea emerged to serve our local community coffee. To test the idea, we made a post on our local Facebook page and asked the community if they would support Peter serving our neighbors coffee. Read more>>

I come from a fitness background and have worked in gyms since I was a teenager. During those years I suffered from crippling drug addiction and alcoholism and it reflected poorly, as you might expect, on my work. . In active addiction I had numerous close calls with death and jail. I overdosed multiple times and was in several car accidents falling asleep at the wheel. Fortunately no one was injured. When things came crashing down, I got sober at the age of 21 and relocated to Delray Beach, Florida for treatment for substance abuse. Sobriety gave me a sense of having a new lease on life and it became my purpose to be of service to others in recovery. Read more>>

In 2023, I am a healthy young adult working to help mental health patients communicate with their doctors about the severity of their symptoms. However, that is not how my story started. That was the first time I had ever experienced depression, a sense that life was not worth living, and wanting to end it all. Read more>>

I’m not the founder of CREDO, but I’ve been around for a cumulative five years now, and I and my wife Avery became Operating Partners two years ago. I’ve always loved how Downtown CREDO has been a forerunner in the coffee industry. For a long time, folx in specialty coffee have highlighted the plight of subsistence farmers. This led us to believe that buying coffee is a big deal. So, when Fair Trade was all the rage in the markets, Downtown CREDO went where few had gone before and was among the first to define and pioneer Direct Trade coffee in 2010 by establishing relationships with farmers at origin and cutting out middlemen and importers to ensure that the farmers get a maximum return for their crop without intermediaries marking up prices or skimming from the top margin. Our mission is to get people to reconnect with each other and with nature in a comfortable and easy way. This company was started honestly because of my military background. Coming from the Army, we did a lot of “forced camping”. Sleeping on the ground, without creature comforts and just making it work. The upside was that we were always outside getting fresh air, enjoying the sun, and receiving the benefits of nature. The other side as to why this company came into being is coming from working in Corporate. Read more>>

I started my own boutique because I have a strong belief that all women should be able to feel and look their best. One of the ways I have found I can do this is by carrying women’s clothing sizes S-3XL at an affordable price. I look for pieces that are stylish and trendy, while being comfortable and affordable. I feel it is so important for women to feel confident and proud of how they look. In addition to clothing, There are many instances in which I have witnessed plus size women being frustrated with clothing choices and not being able to find cute, fun styles. Therefore, I have made it my mission to find styles that will flatter all body types. Read more>>

At a young age I started baking with my Dad because he had the biggest sweet tooth. It was also always my favorite memory with him growing up. I have always been intrigued by the world of baking, thanks to my dad, Thomas. He was a remarkable man with a genuine passion for everything that he put his heart into. His warm smile and infectious enthusiasm made the kitchen his domain of joy and creativity. That is the reason why it made me fascinated by the art of baking, the way simple ingredients could transform into mouthwatering treats that brought joy to people’s lives. He taught me values of patience, attention to detail, and the joy of sharing homemade treats with loved ones. As I grew older, my passion for baking flourished.
