We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

Our missions statement: We offer high quality services at a price that people can afford without sacrificing sanitation or quality of product. Our salon offers a gathering place for friends, sisters, co-workers to relax, and enjoy good music, and great company. I check in regularly with our mission statement to make sure we are upholding the original vision of the store. It always makes me smile when I read it, because this was the exact vision I had when creating the store. I found myself in my early twenties not having a nail salon I could visit and feel comfortable. Read more>>

Dan McGeorge | Photographic Artist

Bringing the beauty of light and nature home. The beauty of the world is captured and frozen in time by the photograph. A precious moment is suspended forever, never to be exactly replicated. This is particularly true in nature, as light, and the relationship of elements, are constantly in flux. Photographic art goes beyond the idea of simply taking a picture. It is not accidental. There is often an element of serendipity, and an occasional bit of downright luck. For the most part, long thought, careful planning, and a conscious resistance to release the shutter are essential. susan gary | Owner, Top Dog Pet Sitters

I started working for a pet sitting business in my city and was appalled at what poor service was provided. Employees would leave clients’ doors unlocked. Pet visits were only 12 minutes. Employees often did not even show up to a pet care assignment. Every night I would share with my husband these stores and say “we could do a better job”. Pets deserved so much better than this! Finally, we decided we really COULD do a better job and started Top Dog Pet Sitters. We had our first client the first week we were open. Read more>>

Aaron Thomas | Founder of Photographically Touching Souls Deeply, PTSD a 501C3 Nonprofit for Veterans who live the diagnoses of post-traumatic stress disorder,

As far as I can remember, I was four when it started. I scribbled an image; I was proud of; I rushed to show my babysitter because I thought it was great; somehow, what she saw, was obscene. She scolded and spanked me; my response was never to draw anything again; I associated drawing with badness and punishment. Today, I assume that a tragedy she experienced caused her to interpret the drawing as inappropriate. After studying the effects of post-trauma, I reflected on that encountered moment. Then, I understood, it was apparent that my babysitter had experienced childhood trauma; perhaps it was sexual. Read more>>

I started out doing makeup for fun, little did I know that makeup would lead me on this path. So I decided to become a Licensed Esthetician, specializing in skincare etc. I’m all about all things beauty and I love to see my clients faces light up. In 2012, my mom had a massive stroke that paralyzed her. It was the first time anything had really shaken my world and caused me to question the purpose of life. After months of intense recovery she regained speech and mobility. As soon as she could speak I asked her a bold question “Why did you do this to yourself?” Without hesitation she said, “Because everybody needed something from me.” I felt that deep in my soul and quickly realized I too was falling in her footsteps. How a Pencil Changed My Life It was back in 2003 when I was a visitor in a 3rd grade classroom. The teacher asked her students to get out a piece of paper and a pencil. I watched as a little girl named Sandy walk up to the teacher and give the teacher her shoe. The teacher smiled and gave Sandy a pencil. After class, I asked the teacher why Sandy had to give up her shoe for a pencil and the teacher told me that she does not have enough pencils for every student so the shoe was “collateral” to get her pencil back so that she had it for the next student that did not have a pencil. My mission is to change the world! People often hear this and roll their eyes. What can one person teaching martial arts do to change the world? I feel very strongly that every single person has the power to change the world each and every day! People often think changing the world means doing something that will directly affect 7 billion individual people. But here is my take on it: If you change the world for even just one person you have changed the entire world FOR THAT PERSON! And changing the world for even just one person is powerful beyond imagination. Read more>>

Back in July of 2012 we were planning on having a birthday party for my son and we wanted a Nerf battle party. I searched around and could not find anyone that could help us to run/set up the party. At that point I realized there was a big opportunity to help getting kids and adults outside to exercise and play more! The concept was easy, we would make it more accessible for anyone in our area to just call us and we would take care of the event and or party with little or no effort on their part. Our mission was therefore to make parties great again! Read more>>

AT Direct was started in 2017 while I was in graduate school. I was working for various schools, club teams and athletic associations. I realized that what I was doing was not only risky to myself as a healthcare provider but risky to the athletes and individuals hiring me. They didn’t know whether I was certified and licensed or what my criminal past was, and I didn’t know if these athletes had previous cardiac conditions, had a valid physical or any of their past medical history. Additionally, no one knew what an athletic trainer was. Read more>>

I started Defenders of Freedom while my son, Matt, was deployed to the Middle East. I was attending the greetings at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport each day of our Troops as they were coming home for a two-week rest & recouperation. As I met more and more of our Troops I saw a need to help them by sending care packages to them while they were deployed. Within a few days I had more names than I could personally cover. So, I started asking some of the other volunteers if they wanted to help. To my delight, everyone said they wanted to help. Read more>>
