We’ve asked some inspiring folks from the community to talk to us about why they do what they do and have shared some of our favorite responses below.

It seems that lately, a lot more people are getting “stuck” and finding they are unable to find inspiration or even the motivation to get past their mental obstacles. There are more excuses than ever to find yourself lost in the complexities of our post pandemic world. My mission is to Entertain, Amaze and Inspire. The foundation of my business mission is deeply rooted in my experiences working within male-dominated corporate environments. These encounters served as a catalyst for a deliberate decision I made when launching my own business: to exclusively partner and collaborate with women. I witnessed a disheartening lack of unity and support among women in these environments, which fueled my belief that by coming together, we could harness our collective expertise and flourish. My primary focus is empowering women who strive for a harmonious work-life balance. These are women who excel at what they do and aspire to leave a lasting legacy for their families. I firmly believe that by implementing the right systems and automation in their businesses, we can unlock their full potential and help them achieve their goals. Read more>>

My brand’s mission has evolved since when I began. My mission shares my lifestyle, affordable fashion choices from various brands, home finds, bridal suggestions, and more. When I started my page, I was near the end of my college career and looking to share the clothes I loved. But, over the years, it grew into a greater purpose. As my life grew and the components of it, so did my brand’s mission. I own my dream dog, got engaged, and I’m decorating my new home, which makes these things helpful to those who want similar finds at their fingertips. Read more>>

We want people to be able to enjoy the outdoors bug free and without having to resort to the use of chemicals in order to do it. So many people choose to stay indoors all year round because they do not want to mess with all of the bugs and that is sad, and they are missing out on a lot of fun and fresh air. We personally love the outdoors and have been able to be outside at our house without any bugs for several years now. It took a while for us to realize it is because of all of the herbs that are planted. We then did a lot of research to see what we could do so that everyone else could do the same. We started off with candles and then added the sprays after we had them scientifically tested. The sprays are scientifically proven to be 100% repellent even at 2 hours. The sprays are also soft and easy on the skin and have an easy-going pleasant scent. We love to hear people tell us that they are now able to get back outside and enjoy it again. Read more>>

Ravish Soap Co. was created because we believe high-quality soap and skincare products should be made available to anyone who wants or needs them without pretention. As a life-long sufferer of itchy skin conditions, Kathy wanted to create quality skincare products that made a difference, were as natural as possible, and had an accessible price point. Everything we produce is made with thoughtfully-sourced ingredients that meet our standard of value – simple, high-quality, real ingredients. No parabens, no phthalates, no sulfates, no SLS, environmentally friendly, and only tested on cool people, not animals! But we’re not a crunchy soap and skincare company – we have a sense of humor and a brain. And we know our customers are above that kind of hype too. Read more>>

I have chronic eczema. I suffered with it as a child. Developed insecurities with my skin as a teen and learned how to “mask” it as an adult. I have been on prescribed steroid topicals, over the counter cortisones, and antihistamines. Over the years, my skin had become “addicted” to the medicated topicals. If I tried to go 2 days without using one, I would go through what’s now known as TSW, Topical Steroid Withdrawal. What an intolerable experience that would send me right back to using topicals. And that cycle continued until I had finally had enough. All of those things were temporary fixes if you will that had not so pleasant long term effects. So I decided to do something about it for the sake of my skin and my sanity! Read more>>

Growing up you realize just how important your childhood was key to the growth of your teen years and then your teen years key to your adulthood growth. You realize just how important love was from your family or having a role model to help push you through your tough times. B.o.R is a much more than a fashion or music brand. It is a lifestyle. B.o.R symbolizes the Beginning of Revolution! When people think of B.o.R, we want them to think of love, trust, togetherness, spiritual growth, hope, faith, and light! The mission for B.o.R is not only to inspire the next generation, but let the next generation know that the spirit they carry within is the most important product of life. You can’t put a price on Spirit, love, or wisdom so don’t cast your pearls in front of swines. The more we inspire, the more we give, the more we teach, then the more that this world will lean on each other or have that “hero” or role model to help them through dark times. B.o.R will bring a much needed fire to people’s spirits. Through B.o.R, we want to create not only clothing, music, and films for the world, but have an inspiring message behind them. The kids are the future and B.o.R’s mission is to make sure they have the resources and truthful teachings they need to take on the world! We want everybody to grow into a fruitful tree that can help feed the world. Read more>>

Jordan/ The KG Covington/ Foundation

The KG Foundation is a 501 ©3 non-profit that assists local Metro Detroit animal shelters and rescues. Our family has been involved in the animal welfare community for well over 12 years. We started the KG Foundation in honor of my late fiancé, Kristopher Gorlitz, after he unexpectedly and tragically passed away in 2020. Our family knew we wanted to honor his light, love, and overall passion for rescuing dogs. Kris and I had always done an annual donation drive for the local shelters which quickly expanded over the years. What started as a pickup truck of donations assisting one local resource turned into a U-Haul truck full of goods helping several. Over a decade Kris and I along with the help of his family fostered hundreds of homeless dogs together, even a few cats/ kittens and bunnies found a soft spot to land with us. We didn’t have children, just our rescue dogs. Ironically enough, we were talking about creating a nonprofit to help our fellow animal welfare warriors before he passed but couldn’t land on a name for it. The foundation was in motion prior to Kris passing, but was named and found its momentum, really because of his passing. It’s now a way for us to honor our guy and simultaneously give back to the community. In addition, it provides a way for people who may have never got the pleasure of even knowing Kris, to come together and do something good, while honoring someone they love or who they may be missing. The idea is to take all that pain of loss and grief, and create something incredible and life changing with it. By Uniting as one, and using all of that love with no place to go to empower the change for someone who may not be able to help themself. Be the good.. Be the light.. Be the change.. and be the love – it’s a really beautiful thing! Read more>>

Transforming the way you see yourself to expand your possibilities. This is a mission that I live by, and felt it was only befitting that my practice operate under this premise as well. What does it mean in practice though? It means that we are able to gain an understanding of ourselves so deep that it sends us to a space where nothing but love, compassion, and empathy resides. Where we remove the judgement and negative thinking to allow us to examine the “what’s” and “why’s” behind our actions with compassion. This is how I was able to go from someone who couldn’t even look in the mirror without cringing. I believed well into my mid thirties that I was ugly. I felt so unloveable, I felt no one would love me enough to stay, and that it was my job to make others around me feel good. As a protective measure, I would never ask for help, I would never let people in to what I was thinking or feeling. I was mechanical, cold, and slow to trust. I came to a place where I realized I was proving my worst fears true, and I needed to do different if I was ever going to experience different. I knew it would take a perspective shift, and that perspective shift really began to change my life for the better. I turned that shift into my mission, and it’s guided my work at NSG ever since! As a little girl visiting my grandparents, I saw portraits plastered all over their walls: both past generations and our current family. I felt so proud to see those pictures. I took those same portraits off the walls, held them in my arms, and brought them home. Read more>>

I believe we’re all makers, and getting back to the roots of using creativity to make things with our hands is invaluable for our mental health and general well-being. Ultimately I’m happier when I can get good use out of the things that I spend time making. Thus, sewing. Read more>>

I founded Local Roots 12 years ago and opened up the cafe 2 years ago. I’ve always been self motivated by believing that our mission is bigger than myself. There isn’t much of a profit in local, sustainable food – so you need a ton of motivation besides money. I believe food can change the world. By connecting New Yorkers to local, sustainably grown food, I believe I’m healing the Earth, health, and culture. The mission of Local Roots – to connect NYers with high quality, local and sustainable foods – is my love letter to NYC. A city with so much abundance also lacks easy access to high quality local ingredients. Things have evolved, but 12 years ago it was challenging. I love NYC and wanted to create a virtuous cycle for NYers where they can eat nourishing food while also supporting hard working farmers that are in them taking care of the Earth and our health.
