Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sam Saenz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sam , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My website & social media business mission is to improve the internet! The quality of your website and social media channels directly affects a business’s user experience and, ultimately, its sales and bottom line. My 10+ years of professional web design and content strategy expertise help companies to make their websites more efficient.
My mission for my travel blog is to help people eat well and travel often, hence the name. I enjoy finding things to do that are worth the money and places to eat in South Florida and beyond.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Native Texan, UX Content Strategist, and food & travel writer. I decided to call Miami home in 2020 and I’ve been soaking up the sun, sand, and surf ever since!
I have 10+ years of website design, UX Content Strategy, and social media experience. My resume includes companies such as CVS, Shopify, RetailMeNot, and Anheuser Busch.
In addition to my 9-5 job, I also run my agency, where I help clients improve their websites and create a holistic digital strategy to increase sales; this includes utilizing channels like YouTube, TikTok, and Medium. I mainly work with clients who want to get up and running online but don’t know how or don’t have the time. My expertise allows them to do what they do best: run their business while I help them create a brand and voice and reach potential customers.
I started as a food & travel writer in 2015 when I interned for Austin Monthly and later became a paid freelancer. I also wrote for The Austinot which allowed me to eat at some of the best restaurants in Texas and go on fantastic all-expenses-paid trips to small Texas towns, 5-star hotels, and unique Airbnbs.
In 2018, I decided to leave The Austinot and focus on my blog, Eat Well. Adventure Often. full-time. There, I write about food, travel, and lifestyle in South Florida and beyond. Check it out for travel guides and lifestyle product recommendations. From 5 stars to tiki bars, my goal is to help others have a good time!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that not everyone is an ideal client for me, and that’s ok. Some people will come to me and want my website or social media services, but they are not ready to make the mindset shift required. To get different results, you have to be willing to do different things. Whether that’s getting in front of or behind the camera to talk about your business or expertise or capitalizing on channels like Tiktok or Youtube that can take time to get a following but are evergreen and drive SEO. I don’t like giving people mediocrity either, so I’m not just going to post static images or slap content on a website.
Have you ever had to pivot?
For me, Tiktok has really disrupted the social media game. I tell everyone who will listen and wants to grow their business that they should be taking full advantage of its organic reach. During the pandemic, I had to figure out how to use it quickly so I could help clients harness its power as more than a dance app.
