We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zoia Khachumian a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zoia, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The first big risk of my life was leaving the country where I was born due to the war. It was a life-changing decision.
At the time, I was at the beginning of my acting career and had just earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media production. I still remember crossing the border—tired and uncertain. A journalist took my photo and asked who I was. I replied, knowing who I had been but not who I would become. Something was changing, and I kept moving forward.
I spent two years in France, learning French at university and exploring photography. Taking a chance, I asked for permission to host my first photo exhibition. It was a small but terrifying step, and I’m so grateful for that experience!
Then came another moment: leaving France for New York City to pursue a career as a digital creator. Just one week after arriving, I found a job creating videos and photos for a tattoo business in SoHo. Meeting amazing people and working creatively gave me invaluable experience.
Eventually, I took one final risk—I quit my full-time job to fully pursue my dreams. Now, I use my creative skills to build something for myself and inspire others. I share my experiences with art, creativity, and how to reconnect through meditation. My goal is to help people rediscover their spark and be a light for them, just as others have been for me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I create creative videos for businesses and influencers on social media, helping them grow their presence, showcase their art, and highlight the artists behind it. I’m also working on my personal page, where I aim to spread positivity, share personal experiences, and promote mindfulness —to be a light✨.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to be a light and a source of positivity for others, helping them discover their own light too.
I have certain tools to achieve this:
Filming artists and showcasing their art
Sharing mindfulness reminders on my blog
Connecting with people through meaningful conversations

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn getting upset when things didn’t work out immediately and instead focus on trying again and moving forward.
I had to unlearn being overly critical of my own work and actions, realizing that perfection isn’t the goal.
I had to unlearn the belief that everything in life is stable. Life is movement, and true freedom comes from understanding that.
Wherever you are, the first step is building a connection with yourself because you are the one who creates your reality. And starting over can be more exciting and fulfilling than staying stuck in the past
That I definitely learned from several immigrations
