We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zobe Carr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zobe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I had a earlier start with better resources, because I could have marketed myself better at a younger age.
Zobe, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Zobe Carr a( Harlem)NYC singer/songwriter/poet/CEO/production manager. I’ve been in the arts since a kid and music is my passion so I started to independently make music. I’ve performed at many local showcase in NYC, and networked amongst NYC’s upcoming and main artist of 2023-2024. I’ve taken the music to fashion and business, starting a movement “Melanin Is Winning.” With this movement I have put on a series of fashion shows showcasing my music thru fashion and collaborating with some of NYC’s local fashion stylists and visual artists.
What sets me apart from others is I’m humble enough to always put the work in no matter what level I’m on and I will give my last to my loved ones and go without. I have passion in everything I do and I go the extra mile, morally. I take pride in standing my ground and waiting my turn. My community should know I appreciate every connection and seed planted, nothing goes unnoticed. I thrive off of support and unity, that’s why my brand is called Melanin Is Winning.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission for Melanin Is Winning, has always been to unite the Melanin community of different professions, hobbies, and trades to teach others in the community how to start or elevate in those areas.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to show my raw talent and making my ideas come to life is the most rewarding!
