We were lucky to catch up with Zaah recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zaah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My grandmother introduced me to sewing and I gained the love for fashion in the 6th grade. I actually wanted to become a fashion stylist first. My mom connected with a parent in the fashion industry and she became my mentor. Mrs.Lisa was the first person to introduce me to the fashion industry. She helped me direct a fashion show for my 6th grade graduation. she also took me on certain educational events because she also cared for my educational well being. I started sewing my senior year of high school. You Tube University was my college and the rest was trial and error

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From a little girl I was always into All Things Beauty and Fashion. From nail, to hair, and clothes. I love the thought process of allowing how you feel or how you can express your self in physical form. My grandmother gifted me my first sewing machine around 8 years old. I never picked it up though. I started in the fashion industry by making art work online piecing garments together making outfits. It gained attraction from my peers, who then started calling me for wardrobe advice.
Around 6th grade my wonderful mother got me a fashion mentor. She helped me direct and produced my first fashion show for my 6th grade graduation. Around this time I knew me being in the fashion industry would be my occupation throughout life.
I started modeling for different local brands and have done fashion shoots and once I graduated high school I started sewing.
My brother was one of the few individuals that was helping me go to a Fashion College in 2016 but months before it happened he was murdered. That’s how my brand got its name DellaZaah. I dedicated my brand to my brother. This is one of the main reasons I keep pushing my brand.
I started with making clothes for the women in the nightlife industry to get my foot in the door, gain clients and practice business ethics. Within a year later I made my first outfit to sell which was a tube top and a mini skirt. Yes it was simple lol but I was excited because there were people ready to buy what I made. I then started getting customers orders, with it either being bathing suits, exotic wear and birthday outfits.
My next fashion show was a church fashion/talent show. The difference is that now my pieces that I made, models were wearing it down a runway.
I created pieces you will not see in stores or everybody wearing. I like a sense of uniqueness within each garment I make. Some people don’t like it but many love it. I love to make people feel beautiful within their skin. I am so grateful for my clients who have put their faith in me.
I moved out of state to Miami, Florida to expand my clientele, gain experience and knowledge within my work and started going to a Fashion School name Instituto Marangoni to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Fashion Design. While attending this school I worked backstage of multiple fashion shows. I’ve assisted a few companies in creating garments and expanded my knowledge in fashion, as well as created a wedding dress (one of my favorite projects).
I currently now focus on designing and making birthday outfits, dresses and gowns. I am working on my first collection to be launched in the summer of 2025.
I am still accepting new clients and would love to network with like minded individuals to continue to enhance my skill and knowledge.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me is creating from scratch and other individuals liking what I’ve created to the point they want to buy it for their possession. It pushes me to keep going.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think the struggle with non creatives is that they think what the work creatives do is easy however, it’s not. It takes a lot of research, work, along with trial and errors. Non creatives love the ultimate outcome but do not take pride in the journey leading to the outcome. There are sacrifices and a lot of time and dedication that was spent for myself and many other creatives to get to where we are. I started without any knowledge. Anyone can do the same as me and even more if they are actually dedicated. Slow but steady wins the race.
