We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zania Spence a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zania, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
First and foremost, thank you so much for this opportunity. It means a a lot to me to share my story on your platform.
My name is Zania Spence, and I am the founder and CEO of Evolving Virtually, A company that started from a place of necessity and a desire for growth. At the time, I was living paycheck to paycheck, and I reached a point where I knew I needed an additional stream of income that aligned with my purpose and passion. Let’s be real, i just needed extra cash hahaha! I began researching “10 side hustles” via online, scrolling through social media, and YouTube. That’s when I came across a reel on Instagram about becoming a virtual assistant as a side hustle.
The idea immediately intrigued me because I love helping and serving others. I did some research to understand what being a virtual assistant really entails and realized it matched perfectly with my skills and values. I found a mentor through that same reel, and she offered a course on starting a virtual assistant business.
At that moment, I had just over $100 in my bank account, and I needed to make tough choice. BOOM! I took a leap of faith and invested into her course, even though I wasn’t sure how I’d cover other expenses like getting to work in the upcoming days. I studied that course diligently for a month and supplemented it with additional research to ensure this path aligned with who I am as a person.
From there, I focused on laying the foundation for my business. I ensured everything was legally set up, created a logo, built my social media platforms, and started pitching myself. I understood the importance of word-of-mouth marketing, so I prioritized building connections and offering solutions to real problems people faced. I even had a pitch deck designed and sent out over 20 emails daily, trying to connect with potential clients. I did not get a any responses for about a year, and this really broke me and i began to question myself.
In the early stages, there were challenges and moments where it felt like nothing was working. But the biggest lesson I learned was to never stop trying. Consistency and perseverance became my greatest tools.
What truly makes Evolving Virtually successful is that it stems from my passion for serving others. Supporting business owners, entrepreneurs, and content creators brings me so much joy, and that genuine passion shines through in everything I do. From designing social media content to curating valuable resources, I’ve taken the time to ensure every aspect of my business reflects quality and purpose.
The journey from idea to execution has been full of trial and error, but each mistake has been a stepping stone for growth. I believe that our imperfections don’t hinder us, they shape us into better versions of ourselves. We have to remember, as we are made in Gods image, we aren’t perfect and will make mistakes but our mistakes are to teach us.
I give all glory to God for how far He has brought me, and I look forward to the incredible things ahead in 2025.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Evolving Virtually began as a virtual assistant service with a focus on serving entrepreneurs, business owners, content creators, and influencers around the globe. Our mission is to enhance businesses efficiency by managing to-do lists, streamlining operations, and ultimately reducing stress for our clients. At its core, Evolving Virtually is built on service, serving others to help them grow and thrive in their unique areas of expertise.
Over the past year, Evolving Virtually has grown tremendously. I’ve had the honor of working with influencers, business owners, podcast hosts, stylists, photographers, and so many other inspiring individuals. As the business has evolved, it has expanded beyond virtual assistance to in-person services. This includes supporting clients on production sets, photoshoots, and event support, allowing me to bring value face-to-face while gaining new skills.
This expansion has been transformative. Seeing the behind-the-scenes aspects of various industries has deepened my understanding of how to serve others in an impactful way. It’s shown me that Evolving Virtually is capable of solving many challenges faced by business owners and entrepreneurs, not just in South Florida, but around the world.
As business owners, we often feel like we have to do it all, but the reality is there are only 24 hours in a day. My goal, along with my team, is to serve clients quickly, effectively, and efficiently, so they can focus on what truly matters, growing their business and pursuing their passions!
I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many incredible individuals and organizations. I’m excited about the growth and partnerships God has in store for me in the future, and I look forward to continuing to make a meaningful impact through Evolving Virtually.
This is only the beginning!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe the biggest factor in building my reputation in my industry is staying true to who I am. My advice to anyone, in any industry, is to never lose sight of your authenticity. Remain humble, kind, true, and honest; because your reputation is everything.
One of the most underrated yet powerful marketing tools is word of mouth. When you work with a business owner and deliver not just results but a smooth, professional experience, it leaves a lasting impression. That positive experience creates a ripple effect. People naturally share who they’ve worked with and what helped them succeed. For example, when someone asks, “How are you managing all of this?” the response might be, “Oh, it’s my assistant!” or “I worked with Zania!”
Word of mouth is not just marketing, it’s the trust and value others associate with your name.
I’ve also learned that maintaining your character matters, even in challenging situations. In any industry, there will be moments when people might hurt you, talk negatively about you, or try to misrepresent you. But as long as you know your heart and remain kind, honest, and true to yourself, you’re doing the right thing by moving on & not showing weakness.
I hold onto that God will always work things out in your favor. He prepares a table for you in front of those who doubt you, mistreat you, and staying grounded allows His blessings to flow, even when others try to throw dirt on your name.
What has helped me the most in this journey is my authenticity and the relationships I’ve built. Clients have often told me, “I heard about you from so-and-so,” or “They said amazing things about you.” These moments remind me that I’m on the right path. To know my reputation precedes me in a positive way is truly heartwarming.
In the end, it’s about being genuine, staying humble, and focusing on the impact you’re making. That’s what builds a strong, lasting reputation in any market.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A major lesson I had to unlearn and one I’m still working on every day is that not everything needs a reaction. This one runs deep for me.
In 2023, I found myself constantly wanting to respond when people hurt me, spoke negatively about me, or misrepresented me. My heart was always in the right place, I was kind, genuine, and had good intentions. But when others twisted the narrative or painted me as if I had done something wrong, it hit me hard.
My initial instinct was to retaliate, to speak my mind, and to let them know they cant mess with me and get away with it! I know that was terrible thinking.
But then I had a profound realization: the battle we face on earth is not with the flesh, but with spirit. As Ephesians 6:12 says, we wrestle against spiritual forces, not people. This understanding became clear to me after I got baptized last year October (yay!) and committed to building a relationship with God. The more I anchored myself in God’s word, the more I began to see people’s actions differently. I started to recognize that their behavior often stemmed from their own pain or struggles.
This shift allowed me to let go and let God. It was freeing to know that I didn’t have to fight every battle myself. But here’s the thing, while it felt good to not react, I realized there was still another layer: forgiveness. Even if I didn’t retaliate, had I truly forgiven them? Had I released the hurt?
There are still moments when I think about the pain, the words, and the actions that wounded me. But when I remind myself that this is not my battle, t’s God’s! I find internal peace. I trust that He will handle it in His perfect way and timing.
The Bible says that a wise person is silent (Proverbs 17:28), and that’s what I aspire to be. Wisdom comes in knowing when to speak and when to let silence do the talking. So, I’m learning to stay silent, to forgive, and to keep moving forward with grace, peace and love to my brother/ sister in christ.
